Texting
The average teen sends 20 texts per day... scary.
I'm going to assume that each text takes around... lets say 10 seconds, give or take a few.
10x20: 200 seconds per day spent on texting
200x365: 73,000 seconds per year, or 1,216 minutes, or 20.25 hours.
73000x80= 5,840,000 seconds in an average life, or 97,333 minutes, or 1622 hours.
That translates into 811 days or 2.22 years!
So, is texting as much as we do now a-day a bad thing?
Please, nobody add a poll until the choices are more clear.
I myself am strictly against texting. While using it occasionally if someone's phone isn't on or if you're sending a file is okay, these extensive conversations that most teens have are just crazy! I saw a girl on the news that drove up a 500-page phone bill. WTF? And just looking for some of the info for this, I saw a concerned parent asking if her daughter sending 7000 texts a month was too much. I think this is WAY out of hand. In the well-put words of my uncle after getting my cousin a phone with texting, "If you don't have enough balls to call the person up and talk to them, you shouldn't be texting them."

Re: Texting
I don't text much... but I'm just not very social.
Now lets see... I spend about... AT LEAST 5 or so hours a day on my computer....
I don't even want to know...
holly shit.... 14.5 years... That's just depressing

Re: Texting
I don't have texting, and if I did, I wouldn't spend near as much time on it as most of my friends.
But you can get a ton more done on a computer than on a phone, and 500x as fast. I can keyboard about half as fast as I can talk (sometimes just as fast), but I text at like 2 words per minute.

Re: Texting
I've seriously sunken into depression at this point. I just might go outside.

Re: Texting
Outside or not doesn't matter, all that matters is if you enjoy it.
Most of my friends spend over 5 hours a day skateboarding, doing drugs, and getting arrested. I think I'm living more than them.

Re: Texting
um, during periods that i have girlfriends i'll text upwards of 500 messages a day. when i don't, it's a lot less. sometimes no more than 5 a day.
pretty much all of which are during class. we can seriously get 5+ texts back and forth in 1 minute, including time for our phone carriers to cover the transfer. normally, i'll call when i'm at home. and i normally call whenever it's something important/urgent. if it's an "at your leisure" type thing, i just text it.
My phone plan has unlimited txt/pix, unlimited data and 1400 minutes.

Re: Texting
I text a lot, and it is an important facet of communication, because I can relay short, concise messages to friends without calling them. For example, I can text my friend Jeni "Lunch?" and we three texts later, we have planned lunch. There are just certain things, like "Running late" or "Meet you there" that are just too short to be worth a call, and that is where texting excels. It is also great because sometimes your friend can't answer the phone, or doesn't have it with, and so texting takes the place of a voice mail, but way easier to access.

Re: Texting
Very true, but the conversations are just kinda stupid. Many of my friends just text each other back and forth at night until they fall asleep.

Re: Texting
I own a cell phone.
That being said, I have stripped most of the features from it. No games. No internet. Nada.
I make five calls a month, if that. I do not text, because I can talk faster than I can text.
So for me, texting is unneccessary, and if you have a 10-message conversation, you might as well as called the person.

pretty much the same thing here
I make about 1 call per month... probably less
I just call my friends on my home phone when possible or just go over to their house when i want to talk to them.
