Re: Texting
I'm just opposed to whole texting idea. yes, it's easier, but look what it's done to people's grammar. Everyone I know that texts doesnt even spell out I dont know anymore. They just put idk ON THEIR SCHOOL PAPERS!!!! and it sickens me. But on another point, I agree with seath, the mosquito ringtones are fucking irritating!

Re: Texting
Texting hasn't inherently done anything to peoples grammar. Personally I know no one that uses poor grammar and spelling aside from the normal 'lol' 'idk' and things like that.
but, Gold, not being a socialite, i don't imagine you'd ever need texting

Re: Texting
Texting has hardly damaged grammar. If you are opposed to the destruction of grammar, look no further than teh Interwebz, Destroyer of English.

Re: Texting
As long as people can still write proper essays and whatnot, there is nothing wrong with textlanguage. Also, you could just see it as a natural evolution of our language, I must admint sms language is much quicker and more convenient than what we are taught.
I actually also think the people who are against it are the ones who just don't need it irl...due to whatever reason you come up with.
Roflcakes, i liek chickenz.

Re: Texting
I'm not tech savy. texting confuses me. But even beside that fact, I'd rather talk to someone than text to them.

I see what you did there... use the term "IRL" in a statement about internet speak.
I must say, even when I'm texting (which is not terribly often,) I can't stand it when people use that kind of spelling. I can understand "lol," but that's about it. Most everyone I know has a full qwerty keyboard on their phone. They can afford to spend the extra second to spell things the right way and, yes, add proper quotation.

The mosquito ring XD
It never works anymore though cuz whenever it goes off a dozen people start complaining and the teacher instantly knows.

The only thing that bothers me about those things is the exaggerated reaction that people tend to give it. It's really not that big a deal... no worse than the frequency of a CRT television.

Re: Texting
Frankly, I never use but the most common of chatspeak. If I can fit my message with regular words and punctuation with a 160 char limit, others can with larger char limit phones.

Re: Texting
the main reason i never see people really texting poorly is because peopel use T9 nowadays which spells the word for them so its faster to spell correctly.
I use my BB Suretype keyboard more than the qwerty keyboard. 2 letters per button and it's really slick and responsive (the qwerty keyboard lags a bit, ESPECIALLY on the web)

Re: Texting
Rotaretilbo wrote:I text a lot, and it is an important facet of communication, because I can relay short, concise messages to friends without calling them. For example, I can text my friend Jeni "Lunch?" and we three texts later, we have planned lunch. There are just certain things, like "Running late" or "Meet you there" that are just too short to be worth a call, and that is where texting excels. It is also great because sometimes your friend can't answer the phone, or doesn't have it with, and so texting takes the place of a voice mail, but way easier to access.
Exactly...
Texting is like instant message and voice mail put together.
