The God Who Wasn't There

Post by Toaster on Sat Feb 14, 2009 2:22 pm

Watch the video, the whole way through, before commenting.

Why should the existence of Christ be taught in schools?

The video is one hour long! I'm not going to watch that!

I'm not saying it should be taught in schools you twit, I'm saying that neither evolution or religion should be taught in schools.

Now they're even teaching global warming in schools... sad. Keep your dumb theories out of schools!

I swear....

What's wrong with global warming? It's not just a theory, but something that has VERY CLEAR and VISIBLE results right now in the real world. Not only that, but global warming of all things is not challenging any religious beliefs of others. Civ, you really do not have to be an aithiest to "believe in" global warming.

Never said you had to be atheist. But they are teaching it as a huge thing in my school. It's a controversial issue, so keep it out of the education system.

I'm talking about the existence of Jesus. This is not related to the ID thread.

Civ, this thread is not about global thread. We know that green house gases trap in heat. We know that C02 is a green house gas. We know that we release a lot of c02 into the air. Make the connection fuck-tard

We also know that the Earth warms and cools on its own without human interference, and that the Earth was warmer a few hundred years ago, which allowed for the Vikings to sail across a warmer, less stormy North Sea and to Iceland, Greenland, and eventually Canada.

I'll watch the video later, and thusly comment on the main topic later.

Why would you teach the existence of Christ in schools? There's no reason to do so, other than because that's why the AD calender was started.

I know it exists, I just don't think it's as bad as some make it out to be. [/debate]

Honestly, I don't think anything that's extremely controversial should be taught in schools. You can tell them there's an argument, but I don't even think that the sides of the arguments should be taught as the teacher would likely be biased for one side and make it sound better. Things like religion, politics, whatever.

I doubt there is anyone here that thinks that Jesus's existence should be taught, not even myself.

Well then I'm sorry for calling you a fuck-tard pirat

Civ wrote:I doubt there is anyone here that thinks that Jesus's existence should be taught, not even myself.

But do you believe the existence of Jesus to be pretty historically solid? When I open up my History text book, I see an entire section dedicated to the figure Jesus, teaching that he had a bunch of followers, angered the Roman order, and was crucified. Our history teacher tells us that we KNOW that he disappeared from his tomb.

I've never looked it up. But, then, why would I when I believe he was the son of God? Of course I believe he existed, but I'm not sure if there are many historical documents on him.

Now that is wrong.

Re: The God Who Wasn't There

Post by kslidz on Sat Feb 14, 2009 4:36 pm

why teach christ in schools hes only (even if he isnt god) the main reason europe did anything it did in the middle ages

also everyone was wrong about the solar system not just christians until a few came along

i havent fully watched the video yet
but hebrews 8:4 does not say that
it says
"NOW if He WERE on Earth he would not be a priest"
'For if he were on earth, he would not be a priest,"
the only translation that doe not use one or the other of those two phrases is a Bible called "the Bible in basic English" not a reliable translation no?

but he says
Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised; 14 and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain. 15 Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; 17 and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied. 20 But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep.

and as paul says this he uses soma
soma translate into physical, fleshly, body
not spiritual
so the accusation that the very biased documentary makes that paul didnt even believe jesus came is really retarded
not saying that documentary is different than Christian ones, all documentaries are very biased and cant be used as a reliable source (ex expelled, look at the back ground of most of the people who got fired, a lot were quitting anyways and stuff like that)

I think the video was more trying to make the point that long held beliefs/assumptions can be changed.

not my main point but he does say
"Christians were wrong"
this guy obviously has some baggage and hates what his childhood was based around
but i find so many flaws in so many statements in this video that i am not goin to take the time to refute all of them just the ones that some one (could be you) tells me are important
