COD:Modern Warfare 2

I'd like to interject for a moment, and point out to KrAzY that Battlefield 2 released for $50. I believe the same can be said for Halo PC, though I'm not as sure for that.

So then the only reason why care about the price is because they may do it to other titles right?

I think the main thing is that, traditionally, a good PC game is priced at $50. However, considering that Infinity Ward is fucking PC gamers by taking away dedicated servers and all the goodliness that comes with, that they would then have the gall to charge us an extra $10, pisses us all off.

But still. If you don't even like the game and never did, why do you care if they make it higher price or make loads of DLC for said game? Your never gonna buy it so why give a damn what they do with it?

Because it sets a trend. A very very bad trend.

If Activison's little pricing experimnet is successful, they will start making their triple AAA titles that bit more expensive. What would result is a backwards price war, with publishers raising their prices in a time when money is short. £40 per game is pretty galling as it is, as you get it much cheaper over there, but the prospect of having to pay and extra £5 to £10, when we are still in a rescession is unacceptable. Not to mention that if they do well with PC sales, they could can Dedicated servers and mods all togther, which would be another nail in the coffin of PC gaming.

Activison cannot be allowed to win, as it will make us all suffer in the long run.

The sad thing is that they will win because there is enough idiots out there who will buy it without question. The resulting sales will prove to Activision (and possibly other companies) that they can do this and still make a profit out of it.

I know my boycott is pretty futile. It WILL make shitloads of money, and Activision will get their big hit.

My only hope is it goes underneath their estimates.

So they upped the computer price $10 and changed their server system. So what? Don't you guys ever care about the ACTUAL game?

You guys (not just AJ) find one little problem and suddenly you call everyone who buys it an idiot. Well, I've got news for you: there isn't a single game on the market that is perfect. There is a reason to hate every game out there, including Starcraft.

I hated COD4 and this is virtually the same as it.

Also it's a PC game, with none of the PC exclusive content.

One Little Problem? I could rant about every single facet of this game, and why I think it sucks and how Activison is screwing the pooch on this one.

Sure, I'm bias as I didn't like it from the start, but you have to admit, Activison is being a giant douchebag on the publishing side. I have virtually no problem with Inifinity Ward, But Activision are really doing a disservice for the game.

If it hadn't been for upping the price or removing dedicated servers, we might have bought it. These things are the reason we aren't buying it.

Not as futile as you might think. It isn't everyday that thousands of fans boycott a game. If half of the people who signed the I-won't-buy-MW2 petition had preordered the game, then Infinity Ward lost something like several million dollars in preorder cancelations.

Those are features of the ACTUAL game. For PC players, replayability is based on several key things: customizability (which is reliant on dedicated servers), competition (which is reliant on dedicated servers), and pure love (which only a few games, like Portal, get enough of to warrant replayability without the other two). If I want to play shitty matchmaking or play through a shitty story, I'll just play CoD4 on the Xbox 360.

But this isn't one little problem. This is the removal of several big aspects of PC gaming. This is Infinity Ward saying "fuck you, PC gamers! we don't give a shit about you!" This isn't a gun being too powerful or a perk being too annoying, this is dedicated fucking servers.

Wouldn't dedicated servers fall under Infinity Ward's responsibility?

I believe this was Activisions doing, as only a week before they announced this, they were say it WAS going to have dedicated servers.

I heard speculation that they would implement it later.....for a fee.

Yeah, fucking Activision. IW are just as bad for being pussy-whipping into allowing this shit, and they're even worse if it was their idea in the first place.

PC gaming market is going to shit though because of pirating. Given how ignorant the average consumer is, most companies can't be bothered with effective DRM solutions because people are just too fucking stupid to work it out. Removing dedicated servers does make it a lot easier to manage piracy, so I can see why they took that path.
But, Activision being the stupidly fucking ignorant company that they are obviously have no understanding of the PC gaming community, and now they're up against a boycott that'd probably cut about 10-20% off of their profits.

Hmm...I wonder if the UK/Europe Boycott and the PC boycott will have any effect....

Sure It will still be the best selling game of this year with people not shutting up about it until November next year, but I hope they at least dent it.

I, for one, liked Call of Duty4: Modern Warfare and will be getting Modern Warfare Two.

P.S. Even if I had to kill a few Russian in the game...
