Re: Windows users are screwed?
That sucks! I'm gonna be pissed if my comp. gets infected.
Lol, they make it sound like it's an actual organic virus. Using terms like strain and whatnot.

Re: Windows users are screwed?
the "virus" is supposed to activate tomorrow
if it was real there would have been more than a 24 hour notice

The Virus is real.
I don't know about the whole April 1st thing.

I'm sure I'd heard about it somewhere a few months ago. It probably only gained infamy now that it's close

If it is real though they could activate it whenever they want. . . like April 2nd or even a month from now if the creators so choose.

Re: Windows users are screwed?
but since they haven't caught the creators authorities think it will happen the 1st. it's been around waiting to do something for so long... microsoft is already getting ready for it.... i think it's a Mac user whoes trying to destroy Microsoft and this is (i say) the best way... how many people would switch to mac because mac cant be touched by it?

Re: Windows users are screwed?
I could care less about a virus.
If it's real, too bad for me. But, like KrAzY said, it's probably an April fools joke. Come on, what are the odds that a major virus is said to be created on April first, but whose creators are unknown? Not to mention, the implications necessary, and the probability that, with such a scale and level of tech available, the creators would eventually be caught and punished; and if the creators knew this, as it's very unlikely that they wouldn't, why would they do it? They obviously stand nothing to gain.
It's just a joke. If not, oh well, I need a new HD anyway.

The virus wasn't created on April First. The virus itself has been spreading for a long time. Researchers of the Virus have found that it has some sort of kill switch within its code. The virus has been sitting around for some time, but it will be ACTIVATED tomorrow. That's the idea.
A similar virus occurred in the early days of the web. It spread for weeks, embedding itself on a massive number of computer. Finally, all at once, the viruses activated, and computers across the world crashed simultaneously.
While there is a lot to lose in their situation, I understand why they're doing it. If not to gain personal information (bank accounts ect.) about people, they could just want fame. Think of what it would be like to know that you created one of the most destructive viruses of all time, and crashed millions of computers. I know I'd be proud.
