STALKER
Has anybody played these games, or even heard of them? Clear Sky got a review from Yahtzee, which I'm pretty sure was favourable (it's hard to tell with him
).

I've only played Shadow of Chernobyl, and I'll admit it took me a while to get into. Not only is it gob-smackingly hard, but it doesn't play like any other fps I've been on. After a while, it quickly became one of my top three games, bumping Halo of the list.
It's pretty old too, so I got the first on for £7. Give it a try!

Re: STALKER
Depends what you mean. In terms of setting you have radiation and that's about it, although radiation is a lot more fearsome in STALKER.
In terms of gameplay, atmosphere, plot, characters, enemies, everything else ever - the two are complete and utter strangers.

Re: STALKER
cheese...not really
both are FPSRPGs.
they are very similar past the fact that Fallout tossed in way more monsters than Stalker did.

Re: STALKER
They are similar in the way that they are both radioactive open world fps-rpgs, but that's about it - and even if they were made into books then that would change. STALKER would be horror, Fallout would be Sci-Fi Apocalypse.
In terms of FPS, STALKER is way more like CoD than Fallout - and Fallout looks more similar to FFXIII if you don't include the clumsy shooter bits when you're out of AP, which play more like Pariah for instance.
In terms of open world - STALKER isn't. It's made up of about 15 different maps that you cannot access before your time. Radiation and enemies aside, there are barriers that you cannot pass until you get permission from whoever or get a brain unscrambler.
RPGs could be the same about any old western RPG (though STALKER, being Russian is pushing that boundry). And yeah, I guess that whole role play thing can't be very different without several hours of cutscenes like those from the Land of the Rising Sun enjoy.
In terms of Radiation, as I said before, Radiation in Fallout is harmless. In STALKER is actually kills your ass. There are mutants in both, but STALKER mutants weren't created by Radiation, they were created by the zone, which was also not created by the Chernobyl event.
Levelling up - STALKER has none. You get more powerful through weapons and armour and artefacts, making it more akin to Freelancer.
Atmosphere in STALKER is supposed to be dark and unsettling. I still don't feel safe in the zone (with my shiny deadly mods that is). In Fallout I don't mind strolling around with my radio on full blast all the time. Danger is basically invisible in STALKER.
If you're gonna call these two the same - you might as well call every FPS, RTS, TBS the same - because most are just as, if not more similar than these two.

Re: STALKER
you are aware i said "a lot like" lol
i think you forget the fact that drawing such a comparison helps people that don't know the IP relate it to something they do know.
chances are, if you hated fallout3, then you're still not gonna like STALKER.
