First Book?
Re: TCF Book Club
I thought it was one of Crichton's better books. I preferred the Jurrassic Park movies to the books (Better characterization, IMO)
It was fairly intelligent and, as usual with Crichton books, it was a warning against the potential abuses of future tech. But, towards the end... I kept wondering if it was really possible for nanotech machines to do that stuff to people. Not just the mind control, but the radical body transform near the end. Second to last chapter, I believe.
My favorite part was how the machines were assuming the hunting characteristics of predators. Made for a white-knuckled read.

Re: TCF Book Club
Yeah. I REALLY liked it. It was definitely his most intense, gripping book for me. I found myself to be feeling about the same as you described about the end though. It was a bit far-fetched... and REALLY weird.
I'll have to disagree with you about the movie though. I do LOVE the movie. I saw the movie long before I read the book, so when I was reading Jurassic Park, for example, I pictured Ian Malcolm as Jeff Goldblum.
The only problem I have with the movie is the switching of the ages of Tim and Lexi. Tim being older than his sister, in the book, allowed for a whole different dynamic between the two. Lexi was the innocent little girl, and Timmy was the mature older brother who looked out for and took care of her. When they switched the roles in the movie, they made Lexi as squeamish as she was in the book, while making her a more 'mature' age, which really just butchered the character. Still, I do love the kid who played Timmy. He's was a good young actor.
I also don't really like the way they made it so that Allen Grant 'hates children' in the movie, when in the book, he openly expresses how much he loves kids, and wants to have them some day.
Nice spoilers for Prey by the way
It's okay, it wasn't going to get selected anyways.

Yeah I thought the same but in a more detrimental kind of way. It had more of a corny action, B-Movie feel to it imo. But I really did love the stuff about the PredPrey Program.
As for Tim from the movie, Toaster - I loved that kid
