ArmA II
http://store.steampowered.com/app/5261/
I've recently discovered this game, and it looks to be pretty damn cool.
It is, essentially, a combat simulator. The game's campaign takes place within a 225 square kilometer stretch of land, modeled after an actual location on earth, and populated by locals, enemy combatants, and wildlife.
The game has a HUGE amount of weapons and vehicles, and it's pretty damn good looking for what it is. It does look to be extremely realistic... as in... one shot will kill you.
It's not the most polished game. As heard in that trailer I linked to, the voice acting is an absolute nightmare. Still, with what they're advertising as a story-driven, branching campaign, mixed in with multiplayer matches of up to 50 people, it looks to be pretty awesome.
-PC ONLY -
Edit: Apparently it's coming out for PS3 as well. Here's another trailer I dug up... which shows SOVIETS FIGHTER JETS AND HELICOPTERS!!! http://ps3.ign.com/dor/objects/958403/arma-2/videos/arma2_trl_russia_030609.html

Meh , sure it looks great but what game doesn't accomplish some visual alchemy in today's games. I'll let father time to show me whether this game will be good or a flop.

30th June!!
Hot damn I hope my pc can run this.
My fear is in the lack of a proper campaign and utterly retarded friendlies - just like Flashpoint. But I guess you did say it was advertising as a story driven game.
Visuals looked good to me.

Eh, looks alright.
Not to high on my "get" list, but if I have spare funds, I guess I could rent it...

Well it's kinda weird. Some moments of that first trailer look great (like the forest scene) while others look kinda blocky and untextured. Maybe it's just the character models that I don't like. Anyways, generally, the game looks GREAT, especially the stuff in that second trailer.
I didn't play the original flashpoint... or Arma... but this game REALLY has me excited, despite my lack of funds for purchasing it...
I just can't wait to go into multiplayer mode and fly people into battle in a RUSSIAN HELICOPTER!!!
I'm kinda hoping the chopper controls will take a bit of practice, because I want it to be something that you can actually be considered 'good at,' and won't be something that everyone does.

Judge a book by its cover man. Would you play the damn game before making such critical acclaim?

Would you stop being such a cynical douche? All I've judged so far are the visuals... which are easy to derive from gameplay trailers.
