So far I've drawn up a rough character list for my own reference. I can't fit everyone from the forums into the story... most of you are grunts as it is, but I'll try to include those who ask somewhere in it.

Chapter I
“Exiting slipspace in five... four... three... two... one...”

Captain Qwerty winced, half expecting the Crimson Fall to be welcomed with heavy missile fire. Instead, just the dead-silence of space. The large, metal screens rose up in front of him to reveal a spectacular showcase of stars, completed by a stunning blue-green planet. “Lieutenant Justin, scan the planet for activity. Lieutenant Vigil, open a COM link with Lord Pheonix.”

The door slid open behind Qwerty and a familiar voice echoed throughout the bridge. “No need. I’m already here.”

At once, every crew member in the bridge stood, wheeled about, and saluted. “My Lord!” exclaimed Qwerty, “You were right, there is indeed a planet here. We’re currently searching for...”

A beep sounded from Justin’s computer. “Captain, scans show one Covenant stealth corvette on the other side of the planet. It doesn’t seem to have spotted us yet.”

Qwerty swallowed. “Divert all excess power to the MAC gun. Lord? Shall we engage, or retreat?” Sweat dripped down his eyebrows. “Sir, engage or retreat?” Still no answer. “Engage or retreat!?” After a suitable pause, Qwerty took matters into his own hands. “Ensign Nate, pull us around to...”

Lord Pheonix burst out in the middle of Qwerty’s sentence. “Engage. Pull us around the dark side of that moon. It’s not the best hiding spot, but it will give us a much better shot so long as they’re not looking for us.”

Qwerty stuttered, but then straightened and turned to Nate. “You heard him. Set a course along the dark side of the moon.”

“Already done, Captain.” Qwerty nodded in response. Despite the ensign’s lower rank, he was an extraordinary pilot, be it a colony ship or a drop ship.

“Lieutenant Krazy, I want a firing solution for our MAC the second we get in range. We want to hit these bastards before they have a chance to report.”

Justin called out from his side of the ship, “Entering firing range in thirty seconds... twenty...”

Lieutenant Krazy yelled out, “Archer missiles prepped and ready to fire.”

“Ten... nine... eight...”

Qwerty glanced at the figure on the screen in front of him that represented the enemy ship. It still hadn’t moved. Reaching into his pocket he pulled out a pencil and began fidgeting with it.

“Three... two... one...”

“They’ve spotted us,” said Vigil.

“Target acquired!” called Krazy.

“You may fire when ready.”

“Firing!”

Qwerty held his breath as the ship shuttered. All eyes were on the main screen towering at the front of the bridge, a video of the Covenant stealth ship. The pencil twirled around in Qwerty's hand faster and faster. The shields on the small ship shimmered to life with a golden glow and flickered.

“A hit!” cried Justin.

“Their shields are failing,” reported Krazy.

Qwerty faced Krazy. “Fire a barrage of archer missiles and divert power from the engines to the MAC.”

The lieutenant turned back around to his computer and a group of archer missiles sailed out the side of the Crimson Fall. Draining the engines of their power was a risky move, but Qwerty was confident that they wouldn’t need them. Still, the pencil in his hand began to hurt as he pressed it harder and harder against his fingers with each twist. He turned back to the screen in time to see seven missiles make successful contact.

“Enemy shields have dropped.”

A small blue light began to glow around the front of the ship. “They’re retreating into slipspace!” called Justin.

Qwerty frowned. “Fire the MAC again!” A light streaked across the screen and was gone. Qwerty gazed at the blue light as it faded and disappeared. His pencil snapped in two within his hand. "Lieutenant Justin, report."

“Reading a significant drop in power levels from the Covenant ship. I think we got ‘em.”

“Good,” commented Pheonix from behind. Qwerty almost jumped out of his skin. He had forgotten Lord Pheonix was still on deck. “Finish it off.”

Qwerty wheeled about and responded, “Yes, Lord.” With that, Pheonix turned around and walked back through the door he entered through. Qwerty looked back at the screen and sighed. This was his least favorite part of space battles...

Chapter II
Private Pieman stood in front of the large, six-sided, automatic door that was the standard for UNSC vessels. Above the door, in big, green letters was Commander’s Office. Officially, Lord Pheonix was only a Lieutenant, held back only by his vocal distaste with UNSC leadership; but here, on this ship, he outranked all.

Pieman took a deep breath and turned around to see his fellow soldiers, Private Bacon and Private CivBase, behind him, eyes fixed on the door ahead. He exhaled and turned back to the door. Gathering up every ounce of courage he had, he began his walk to the door when it slid open. Out of the door strode Captain Seath in his olive-green officer’s outfit. Captain Seath held the second-highest rank on the ship, next to Major Rotaretilbo. Officially, his rank was equal to that of Captain Qwerty, but Lord Pheonix had made it perfectly clear that Navy and Marine Corps were to be separated. In the end, both sides reported directly to Pheonix.

Pieman and his fellow soldiers stepped back and gave a quick salute. Captain Seath nodded towards them and continued on his way as the trio of marines entered the Commander’s Office.

The inside of the office was very darkly lit, emphasizing the shades on the holographic projections. Lord Pheonix was sitting at a desk covered in papers and holographic screens on the other side of the room. He looked up to see his guests just as they saluted. The look in his eye struck fear into Pieman’s soul.

“At ease.” Pieman barely managed to force his hand back to his side. “And what might you boys be here for?”

Pieman turned around and looked at Bacon and CivBase to see that they too were nervous. CivBase nodded at Pieman, urging him to talk and Pieman turned back around to face Pheonix. “S-s-sir. We... we wanted to know why we came to this planet out here in the middle of nowhere. Th-that Covenant ship... what if they find us? W-why can’t... Why can’t...”

“Out with it!” growled Pheonix.

“Why don’t we go to the Insurrection? We need to fight the UNSC. We need to help the people there. To free them!”

Lord Phenix glared at the private. Pieman felt a shiver crawl down his spine. “You don’t get it, do you, Private? The Insurrectionist is nothing but a bunch of rebels. All they want to do is fight the UNSC. They want to slaughter themselves fighting for a freedom that will never be theirs. We’re not out to fix the world, we’re out to build a new one. A better one! The dogs running the UNSC can fight their wars. They’re going to kill themselves while we hide out here, free. We have enough provisions on this ship to last us a full year. By then, we’ll be able to grow our own food and create our own supplies. We ca...”

Pieman cut in, “But what about our families!?”

“That’s a sacrifice we’ll just have to live with.”

“You can’t do that!” Pieman's ferocity echoed in his voice.

A smug grin dawned on Pheonix's face, “I already have.”

Pieman couldn’t believe what he was hearing. The man was crazy! He had to do something, and fast. Without thinking, he reached down his side and yanked his M6C Magnum out of it’s holster; but before he could bring it up to fire, a pain tore through his left side as he was tackled to the ground by Private Bacon.

Lord Pheonix jumped out of his seat and drew his own sidearm, aiming it at Pieman. Pieman struggled against Bacon’s grip, but he was pinned. He began yelling and pushing harder and harder. He felt his strength drain from his body and he soon stopped yelling in order to take longer breaths. His fight was in vein, though, as CivBase jumped down to help Bacon. He was betrayed by his leader and his own comrades.

“Take him to the brig and lock him up!” barked LP, still aiming the pistol. By now, Pieman was too weak to resist, even when the two soldiers yanked him up onto his feet.

He blinked as he felt the point of a gun dig into his back and was marched off to prison.

I was actually hoping you'd put me in as the antagonist, the UNSC captain in charge of stopping Pheonix before he can do whatever it is he's doing.
