EVE

Post by Ascendant Justice on Tue Jul 14, 2009 1:02 am

Since I'll be getting into PC gaming pretty soon, I was looking at this as one of the first games to buy. So I haz questions.

What kind of specs would I need to run this? (I think I'm going to stick with that alienware laptop I posted awhile ago)

Is there some form of single player mode that I could practice on?

How is the game overall? (always fun, fun at first, repetitive etc.)

How easy is it to get into?

Oh and just for the heck of it, the other games I was looking at were SC2, Doom 3 (+expansion), maybe Crysis (still iffy though), The most recent Dawn of War game, and maybe C&C3 (unless I find something better).

EDIT: Heres the specs for the laptop:

Operating System
Windows Vista® Home Premium (64-bit Edition) with Service Pack 1

LCD
17-inch WideXGA+ 1440x900 (900p)

Processor
Intel® Core™2 Duo P8600 2.4GHz (3MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB)

Memory
4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz – 2 x 2048MB

Hard Drive
250GB 7,200RPM w/ Free Fall Protection

Video Card
Single NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 260M, 1GB

CD ROM/DVD ROM
Slot-Load Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW)

Its fun with friends, but can get really repetitive.

You don't really have to interact with players near you starting Space station, and their is a tutorial that will teach you how to play.

But aside from the tutorial, is there like a short little single player campaign thing, or even an offline "skirmish" mode against the computer?

EDIT: Specs are up...

there is no offline, but if you stick with the computers missions you really shouldn't interact with that many players.

Its a big universe and you won't see people that often near the beginning of the games areas

Ascendant...do you know ANYTHING about EVE?

It's an MMO.

You don't buy the game. It's free.

You pay a $15 a month subscription fee.

It's a perfectly balanced PvP and PvE. you can do both pretty much anywhere, with areas specializing more in one field than another.

And the game is FAR more fun when you start to meet players and learn about how indepth the game really is.

Give me a pilot that actually gets off the ship, and I might get back into EVE.

It's perfect if you want a nonattached game, which you can do stuff, while browsing the net ect. The game is not really about action, it's more about teamwork and corporations; in that sense it is a grown up, more realistic MMO. Try the 14 day demo; I've found it's a bit of a marmite game.

Can it get pretty laggy if there's a lot of stuff going on at once or if there's lots of people in the same area?
