My God, Nightmare Mode is the hardest difficulty in the existence of FPS's
My Health went from 200% to 0% in less than a second due to about 10 shotgun zombies
1 Hellknight is bad... around 150+ .50 ca bulelts to kill 1... when there are 6, you know you are fucked. BY THE TIME I HAVE KILLED 4 OF THEM THE OTHERS START RESPAWNING!&#%^@&$%

In Doom 3 though you get a much better visual experience, and coupled with the difficulty (nightmare) it makes the game feel more realistic in the sense that you cant survive after 8 bites to the face from a Pinky demon.
And it scares the shit out of me sometimes >.>
However I agree that DOOM's Nightmare mode is a lot harder than Doom 3's after giving it a try. Man is it just me or are the older games A LOT harder on their highest difficulty setting than most of today's games?

They where more often done as a 'joke' - when games were produced on a smaller scale there wasn't some stupid marketing man going "WHAT?! A difficulty thats near impossible?! How will that sell well?!" Also; music of the first level.

Ultra-Violence is considered the 'golden' difficulty if there is one. Its as hard as it gets without being impossible.
DOOM 2 and its expansions are made harder to beat than DOOM, especially the expansions.
