DOOM should be in there for pretty much launching the FPS and making games popular
something Dune or C&C should be in there for launching RTS's

Just because they started a genre does not make them one of the greatest ever a better fps than Doom could be Halo of Call of Duty 4 hell even Battlefield is better

DOOM is actually a very solid game, DL'ed by millions when it came out, bought by millions more ever since, and still played by millions. NTM, it is partially the reason video games are even popular to this day.
How good a game is isn't all that makes it great. Many games are good, but then there are the ones that have influenced other games and the industry as a whole. THose are in a class all their own.
