large flaw in XBL DLC

Post by KristallNacht on Tue Aug 11, 2009 12:23 am

You have to be connected to XBL to play DLC that you purchased. fucking gay.

so I can't play Lost and the Damned or Castle Crashers because my xbox has no internet access due to the logistics of its location, DESPITE the fact I legitimately purchased them on my gamertag

I play Fallout 3 DLC without a live connection. So obviously your logic does not apply to all games.

live connection meaning gold? or no internet at all?

Castle Crashers and GeoWars 2 stay in 'trial mode' when there is no internet connection

and GTA4 doesn't recognize the DLC as being downloaded unless you're online (despite the 'memory' menu on the dashboard listing it)

No arcade games work without LIVE, that's just a sad fact. I dunno about GTA, I don't have it.

It's slowly getting better.

Operation Anchorage and The Pitt won't load offline, but Mothership Zeta, Point Lookout and Broken Steel do.

It's not a "large flaw," it is intentionally implemented DRM.

That's probably because you may have gotten a new xbox or something. The licenses for the games (both arcade and DLC) are tied to the first console that you download them on. If you get the red ring and you receive a new xbox, you WILL have to be signed in to play any purchased content.

What solves this? Renew the licenses. I can't remember exactly how (mine had something to do with tech support I think) but you are presented with a list of everything you downloaded (on your Xbox of course) and you simply re-download all your stuff (which will take like half a second for each one) and the licenses will be renewed and you can play them offline. But here's the catch folks, you can only do this ONCE PER YEAR.

I had the same problem where I could only access my DLC and arcade games by being signed into XBL but after the license transfer, everything worked fine.....OFFLINE.
