Range-wise, it's closer to an SMG, but the retractable stock is (I believe) not standard.

That's just the casing. It's an assault rifle, believe me. It was supposed to replace the M-16

My favorite assault rifle is either the Sturmgewehr-44 (The gun that gave birth to the name) or the AK-101. Just looks so much better than the M-16.

No. Because our politics are crap. We can not purchase anything automatic or what the government considers "assault weapons". Basically any rifle with a detachable box magazine that has more than a nine round capacity and can fire semi auto. Some states and cities also have handgun bans. CA has a ban on the 50. round, so Barret refuses to sell to CA law enforcement.
