Half Life, I liked, but it wasn't brilliant. It seemed...messy. No clear levels, no clear objectives, and you pretty much had to work out what to do by yourself. I'm sure that's no strange thing to a PC gamer, but with me being a Console only gamer, it was a very big change from the norm.

i loved it because of that... it really made you get into the game more because the more you played the more you started thinking that you were Gordon freeman

Linear levels are for noobs. Walking in a line for 10 hours occasionally shooting an enemy or two is boring.
