Another ODST thread!

Post by CivBase on Wed Sep 16, 2009 11:53 pm

Alright, this thread is where AJ and Ang can whine and complain all they want about the 50 ODST threads (even though there's only 7).

Allow me to kick it off:

This is not officially a Halo-oriented site (in fact, it was originally built around an MMO called Ogame and did not get much popularity until a thread about it was posted on HWF), but the origins of every user on this site stems back to Halo. Many users came from the Halo Wars Forums, and some from even further back. BLS is even a Halo-oriented forum.

There used to be a forum specifically for Halo threads, but it was deleted due to inactivity. After Halo Wars came out, there wasn't much to talk about in the Halo universe other random guesses about whether there would be another Halo game, and what it would be like. Now a new Halo game is coming out in one week, and this game is extremely unique and highly anticipated, containing a non-linear (lobby) campaign, firefight, and a variety of new weapons and enemies.

With a forum almost 100% made up of Halo fanboys people who enjoy playing the Halo trillogy (yah, I'm talking about you as well), I'm surprised that we have restricted ourselves to so few threads as it is. AJ, just look at your name, it's a ship from Halo! How can you complain so much about a game that you based your own pseudonym off of? Hypocrite.

Face it, the mods don't care, you two are the only ones that do. So, stop being immature brats and spamming every Halo thread with garbage and get a life!

I am not a fanboy. I may have been during the Halo CE era, but no longer.

honestly, i should never have rented halo wars. It FAR under achieved my expectations, which were low to begin with.

Coming from the guy who feels the need to antagonize people by making more unnecessary forum junk.

I'm not a fanboy. I was... but I've gotten over it.

I think there are plenty of games that deserve much more attention than a glorified expansion.

You could also stop being so wasteful, and condense this discussion to one, two, or even three threads. To make SEVEN THREADS FOR ONE THING is just dumb. The subject matter is irrelevant.

You only prove my point. There is no bait. This is what it is.

You had this coming to you, but you just couldn't shut your trap.

ReconToaster wrote:I'm not a fanboy. I was... but I've gotten over it.

Maybe fanboy isn't the right word for it, but everyone here enjoys playing the Halo trilogy.

ReconToaster wrote:I think there are plenty of games that deserve much more attention than a glorified expansion.

I'd hardly call this a glorified expansion. It is unlike any other Halo game ever created and a completely new game in its own right. The only thing that makes it an expansion is the fact that it uses the Halo 3 engine, but Stubbs the Zombie uses the Halo CE engine and it is certainly a game of its own.

ReconToaster wrote:You could also stop being so wasteful, and condense this discussion to one, two, or even three threads. To make SEVEN THREADS FOR ONE THING is just dumb. The subject matter is irrelevant.

I have made two threads: a countdown thread and a firefight thread, but the countdown thread was more of a joke.

I'd hardly consider this a thread for ODST, but instead a thread for this debate. Really, it has nothing to do with the game.

As for the other five, one of them is a general thread, something that can hardly contain the amount of discussion over such an important game to these forums. The others are over ViDocs and the live action films. Perhaps they could have been combined (especially the live action ones), but they have done no harm. We've had far more off-topic threads for Warhammer.

Not me.
I've kinda burned out on the Halo 2 campaign, nobody will play with me (Aside from someone I have trouble scheduling with), and I didn't like the dual-wielding feature...

I'm just in because I love the backstory, and have written a novel-length story around it.

You are telling him to get a life when your the one who all you can fucking think about is some shitty Halo game and while you wait you have to converse about it in not just one, not two, but like 7 fucking threads.

You get a life.

Also, it is a overly popular expansion, the first thing Bungie described it as was a stand along expansion pack to the Halo 3 campaign, so they add in a Firefight mode and advertise it as a full game and sell it for full retail price, lazy faggots.

I believe I have already gone over this.

Ukurse wrote:You get a life.

Excuse me? I am royally pissed that two guys had the nerve to come into an extremely informative thread based on a highly anticipated game to this forum and trash it with nothing but spam. Then, after that, they had to keep it up in every new Halo thread made just to prove their point.

They could have simply said "hey guys, could you stop making ODST threads and just stick to the ones we have? There are beginning to be a lot of them." OR... if it bothered them so much, they could have PMed LP, who is the only one who could do anything about the matter, or created a mega-thread themselves where they would just copy and paste information from previous threads. But NOOOOOOO.... they had to go and ruin all the other Halo threads.

Ukurse wrote:[Also, it is a overly popular expansion, the first thing Bungie described it as was a stand along expansion pack to the Halo 3 campaign, so they add in a Firefight mode and advertise it as a full game and sell it for full retail price, lazy faggots.

Have you not seen this game, yet? Are you kidding? It is no more of an expansion to Halo 3 than Stubbs the Zombie was an expansion to Halo: CE. It is it's own game with an impressively large campaign that is far more unique to the series than any other game of the Halo trillogy. The only reason one would not consider it a game is because of it's lack of a multiplayer server, but it clearly makes up for that with firefight.

The game started as an expansion, but it evolved into much more.

Now, I have stated my argument, and nobody has come forward with a counter of any sort. How anyone could try to play the reverse card on me when you don't have any defense for your own side is beyond me. Stop dodging the argument and defend your case or conform and stop spamming the Halo threads.

As AJ would have put it: Good day to you, Sir.

lol yeah right.

how much has changed in the engine from halo 3? nothing whatsoever.

the campaign, while being unique in presentation hasn't actually been shown to be all that large.

firefight isn't anything new, its only new for halo.

a more accurate representation is Halo 3: ODST is no more an expansion for Halo 3 than Half Life 2: episode 2 was an expansion to Half life 2: episode 1.

but the difference is that episode 2 was cheaper than $60 and it was part of the orange box

Stubbs the Zombie used the Halo 1 engine. An engine does not make a game. A huge variety of games coan be made off of a single engine, as is often the case with Indy games, so this point is invalid.

KristallNacht wrote:the campaign, while being unique in presentation hasn't actually been shown to be all that large.

How would you know?

From what I can see, it is at least as big as Halo 3's campaign.

KristallNacht wrote:firefight isn't anything new, its only new for halo.

But it's doen better than in any other game.

From what I've heard of the two games, that is a very over-exaggerated comparison.

KristallNacht wrote:but the difference is that episode 2 was cheaper than $60 and it was part of the orange box

Just because Valve makes their games cheap doesn't mean that ODST sucks.
