Go to the comics, they have funny pictures, but if you're interested read the entire thing.

Weird....

A comic site about the argument between Evolution and Creation....

Well, the first comic illustrates a very crappy argument against the Watchmaker Argument, the second is about the vastness of space, and the third... again about the vastness of space.

Over all, it's just a bunch of crappy evolution arguments thrown in with a bunch of facts about how big space is and a couple of pretty pictures.

....I feel like I'm reading Cosmos all over again.

If you look again, you'll find that the word "evolution" isn't listed a single time in that comic. He doesn't even IMPLY it. I love how you've turned some guys statements against a logical fallacy into a statement promoting evolution.

Are you honestly defending the watchmaker argument? REALLY CIV? I know you're a young Earth creationist who thinks that Noah brought Dinosaurs onto the Ark... but you've STILL managed to surprise me with this one.

We know that watches must have been designed because WE KNOW THEM TO HAVE BEEN DESIGNED. We know that they are a manufactured item, not because they are complex, but because they follow certain human design patterns (they LOOK like something made by humans) and we know for an absolute fact that they are made by humans. Rope isn't all that complicated, but you know it's "designed" simply because that is common human knowledge.

Honestly, you might as well say that "because they're complicated, we know that watches are made by humans. Therefore, insects, which are also complicated, must be made by humans as well."

It's a scientifically dishonest theory used to rope in uneducated people.

It was kind of funny, reading the Watchmaker argument, because he used a fallacy. "Nature occurs in nature, and watches don't." No shit, nature occurs in nature. The point of the Watchmaker argument is simply that if you look at something as complex as a watch, and you assume it must have a designer, why is it different for other extremely complex things. Similar arguments include "If I blow up a car factory, will a fully functioning, undamaged car ever be created by the explosion? What if I blow up ten factories? A million? A billion? Ten billion?" and "If I drop Scrabble pieces on the floor, what are the chances that I'll form a word longer than six letters neatly lying adjacent each other?"

Hmmm...

The Watchmakers Analogy I thought was demonstrated well in that comic. Quite honestly, if all teachers taught that way, it would be more interesting. Funny + Education = Win

I'm sorry, I didn't realize there was another option (other than theistic evolution, but he certainty didn't appear to be the least bit creationist from what I saw).

ReconToaster wrote:Are you honestly defending the watchmaker argument? REALLY CIV? I know you're a young Earth creationist who thinks that Noah brought Dinosaurs onto the Ark... but you've STILL managed to surprise me with this one.

Not really, it's a very basic argument which means it's guaranteed to be full of holes. Doesn't make his counter any better, though.

He said that because the watch is complex, it must have been created by humans, which is true. It's complexity is directly related to it being created purposely by humans.

Next, he said that because the cupcake is colorful, it must be tasty, which is false. It's color does not effect it's taste at all. There is no backing to this statement and thus it is a crappy counter to the argument.
