If all games were priced right, vidoe game companies would go broke.

If games were priced right, more people would by them, thus earning the developer an even higher profit.

This is true even with popular games that have high sales in the first place. Valve cut the price of Left 4 Dead on Steam from $50 down to $25 for a weekend, and they experienced A THREE THOUSAND PERCENT SALES INCREASE!!!

Making every game 5 dollars may not be profitable, but there is such a thing as a happy medium when it comes to game pricing.

They price games at that price because they know they can get away with it, and people will still buy it.

True, but you have to realise that the majority of that money never goes to the developers of the game.

All lot goes to suppliers and publishers.

I read this article in a magazine.
http://www.oxmonline.com/article/features/where-does-your-60-go?page=0%2C0
(its two pages you'll have to click the link on the bottom of it)
It basically sums up why 360 games are mostly $60.

This is a very common marketing tactic. Their sales wouldn't have been near as high if it would have remained $25, and they would have wound up loosing money.

Okay, so maybe $25 is still too low for a new game price.

Nevertheless, that huge sales increase is not just because of the limited time aspect of the offer. I'm sure a lower, more profitable, permanent price model could be put in place.
