I prefer the choice.

provide a proper matchmaking system with a side of dedicated servers.

I hate how the ps3 only has dedicated servers pretty much. except you can't put any custom content anyway so its just a shitty matchmaking.

What about it bothers you?

It allows for people to create a place for their group to play. It allows for less latency. It allows for users to play on custom maps and gametypes, with adjusted settings beyond those of the console version of a game. It allows for people to manage their own community, enforcing server rules, and banning annoying people who would not otherwise be banned from general multiplayer.

It's a great system.

Now, I think it would also be cool to be able to host a game at the expense of an Official service, like IW.net, or Xboxlive, to play smaller matches with friends, and matchmaking is cool for general, more casual competitive multiplayer.

I have nothing against either system, and I think they both have a lot to offer. I just don't see how it could ever be appropriate to intentionally REMOVE one system, and side exclusively with the other on such an open platform as the PC.

CoD 4 on PC supported dedicated servers, and harbored a great community with that system. To throw it all away is just fucking stupid.

yeah, on CoD 4 I basically play on 4 servers because I know the players there, and I know I'm gonna enjoy the rule set as well as knowing the admins aren't lazy.

Meh. I could care less if consoles have dedicated servers or not.

Then again I'm not a PC gamer so I have'nt experienced them that much. But I have experienced them somewhat.

I guess for me, if a console game has dedicated servers with it, then it's just an added bonus.
