Hierokonpolis name change

Post by Ringleader on Sat Nov 07, 2009 11:02 pm

Title says it all.

I was thinking of Olympus, or Adonis, something along those lines.

I guess the only prerequisite for names is that UNSC ships get Greek names and words, while UNSC stations get Greek city names. (something I had not taken into account when I named it Hierokonpolis)

Here are some Greek name sources:

http://www.babynamenetwork.com/baby_names/origins/Greek_baby_names.cfm

http://www.behindthename.com/nmc/gre-myth.php

http://www.20000-names.com/male_greek_names.htm

Anyway, find a name you like and post it here!

P.S. When coming up with names, remember that it is significantly bigger and more baddass then ever before!

You realize that stations are named for the city they are orbiting over, right? Cairo certainly isn't a Greek city, after all. Neither is Malta.

So what is it? Another cruiser? Looks very reminiscent of the Marathon and Halcyon cruisers, and pretty much nothing like the other ships we've seen so far.

Yeah, its a UNSC cruiser, supposed to be the largest or second largest one, and its a modern cruiser too, unlike the POA.

...No, clearly this is not a Marathon, it is a new ship for a mod I am working on.

Anyway, what would be a good Greek name for it?

The Cornith/Argos/Olympia/Larissa/Apollonian/Aegean

List goes on, but I like The Aegean the best.

Good, good choices, preferably ending with the letter N.

Isn't Olympia in use already? (some other spaceship in some other universe?)

I meant that it is closer a Marathon class than a Halcyon class.

Halcyon isn't a place, but Marathon is. I don't understand your naming rules.

I like Gauz's idea of Hyperion; it would be a nice nod to SC too ;)

Naming rules:

Station: name of the city it is orbiting over

Ship: Greek name or word, three syllable, preferably ending with the letter N.

Preferably ending in "-on", you mean.

Marathon and Halcyon both ended in "-on" though.
