What made you become a nerd?

After browsing another forum for a bit, I came upon a discussion that interested me. What "turned" or made you become into a nerd?

For me, it was Star Wars. I became so fascinated with the story, the concept, the characters, and the kick ass space battles, that I spend a majority of my younger years learning about it. And then I began looking at other sci-fi works, and bam. Nerd I became.

So, what did it for you?

I was exposed to a lot of classic AI and nerdy things as a child, so I grew a vested interest in them.

Never heard of it.

Personality defect. I am naturally a very crazy person, and so it only made sense that I would not be accepted in many social situations, hence my exile to teh Interwebz.
