valve doesn't like the ps3 because source doesn't run well on the complicated processor scheme.

all of the orange box ran slow on the ps3 considerably.

Well, Gabe Newell seemed confident when he said Portal 2 on PS3 would be the best console version of Portal 2. While talking with Doug Lombardi, he said that about a year and a half ago, Valve discretely hired on a handful of developers skilled with the PS3, so Portal 2 should run smoother than Orange Box, as it has a dedicated team now. Obviously, native development is being done on the PC, still.
