Marine Life

Post by KristallNacht on Fri Mar 26, 2010 12:39 am

this is my thread about life as a Marine.

At this moment I'm in the entry level receiving barracks which i move out of tomorrow. These are located in Camp Johnson, Camp Lejuene.

Tomorrow those of us that arrived this week move to our schools. I volunteered to do something special with computers while I wait for my class to start (a month or two).

The internet sucks since it doesn't allow torrents.

But, luckily, being a Marine has LOTS of perks.

On the multiple flights from LAX to North Carolina, during the layovers we got to chill in the USO. They have free wifi, free food, free video games. It's basically the shit.

And on base, Marine Corps Community Services sets up a bunch of free events, like gaming tournaments, UFC 'parties' and concerts.

Then there is the chow hall. The food is fucking good and its all free to active duty personnel. They have a killer 'restaurant' section and then a fast food area. I love it.

More to Follow.

I thought this thread would be about whales, and plankton and jellyfish, and sea anemones, and Portuguese men of war, and Portuguese men of war, and sea men.

Being a marine also has one major flaws.

War breaks out, off you go

But if its what you want to do, cool and good luck

There is a difference between an occupation and a war...

you are aware I joined the Corps at a time when we were at war in two countries right?

and now the Corps is only at war in one country.

And Marines from the West Coast are trained to want war.

There's also a difference between a contested occupation, and an uncontested occupation.

The point is, marines are currently being shot at.

Also, occupations don't usually have planned offensives against enemy forces in enemy territory:

Active police work isn't war. We fight criminals, not a country with defined borders, civilian population, or regular army.

Holy fuck!

Are we really going to get into a fucking semantics argument?

In 1815, the nations of Great Britain, Prussia, and several other European powers declared war on one man: Napoleon. This was after his return from his first exile.
They did not declare war on France, but on Napoleon specifically.

Did Napoleon have defined borders?
Did Napoleon have a civilian population?

The only one of those things that he had that you listed was a regular army, something that the Taliban had when we first declared war on them.
