Battle of France

remember that today, May 10th, [in] 1940, Germany invaded France, and i made this for school, didnt use it though so thought i use it here.

Battle of France
Order of Battle (Unit Strength)
Germany
Army Group B(Fedor von Bock)- 18th army and 6th army. 24 infantry divisions, 3 armored and 2 mechanized+ 45,000 Fallschirmjäger and 1 Light Fallschirmjäger Division
Army Group A(Gerd von Rundstedt)- 4th, 12th and 16th army. 35 Infantry Divisions, 7 armored divisions and 3 mechanized Divisions (most of Germanys Heavy Panzers (Panzerkampfwagen IV))
Army Group C(Wihelm von Leeb)- 7th Army and 1st Army. 19 Infantry Divisions.
Airforce(Luftwaffe)- over 5000 aircraft, Army Group A and B self supporting air fleets, JU87 wings under direct command by Hermann Goring.
Reserves (Volker von Broich) - 42 Divisions, 2 Mechanized.
Allies (Supreme Commander Maurice Gamelin)
Dyle Plan- Allied Plan to set up on the Dyle River.
French 7th Army- 4 Infantry Divisions, 2 Motorized Infantry Divisions and 1 Light Mechanized.
British Expeditionary Force (Lord John Gort)- 9 Infantry Divisions and 1 tank Brigade(120 tanks)
French Army Group 1- 1st, 2nd and 9th Army’s. 14 Infantry Divisions, 3 Motorized Infantry Divisions and 6 Light Mechanized Divisions.
French Army Group 2- 4 separate army’s, 43 Infantry Divisions and 1 British Infantry Division, as well as Maginot Line.
Reserves- 17 Infantry Divisions, 3 Armored Divisions and 2 Motorized Infantry Divisions
Air- -3000 French and British Aircraft
Netherlands- 8 Infantry Divisions, and 2 Infantry Divisions in Reserve
Belgium- 18 Infantry Divisions, and 4 in Reserve.



May 10th – “Case Red” Begins, Germany begins the battle by invading the Low Countries with air raids and Airborne units, attack Eben Emeal with 78 Fallschirjager engineers. Army Group A begins moving through the Ardennes.
May 11th- Allied lines reach Tilburg, 7th army there is cut by the 9th Panzer Division who Routed the Dutch force north.
May 12th- Eben Emeal and its garrison of 1200 fall, Fallschirjager lose 6 men. German Army Group A reaches the Meuse. First major tank battle of the war begins at Merdo.
May 13th- German units begin to cross the Meuse at Seden. By midnight advance 5 more miles. French withdrawal from Merdo. 9th Panzer reaches Rotterdam.
May 14th- French and British aircraft try to bomb German bridges, Flak batteries make them break off and sustain heavy casualties, French 3rd armored meant to counter attack but was unable to and split among Infantry units. 2nd army pulls back left flank to defend eastern France. Crossed in 2 other towns on the River Meuse. Holland Surrenders.
May 15th- Army Group A breaks through the Ardennes Canal, effectively cutting the allied line in 2. German General Erwin Rommel captures 10,000 troops and 100 tanks. French Premiere starts to Winston Churchill “We have lost the battle”, Churchill suggests waiting for German armored units to stop and refuel, then counter attack. Whole allied front in Belgium ordered to form a line on the River Shelt.
May 16th- Army Group A Halts. BEF and Belgian units receive the order to retreat to the River Shelt. Maurice Gamelin is Replace by Maxime Weygand as Supreme Allied Commander.\
May 17th- Royal Navy it told to prepare for evacuation of the British Expeditionary Force, this plan would be executed 9 days later as Operation Dynamo. French 4th Armored Brigade counter attacks on Sothern Front but is repelled. Leuven and Brussels are taken but German 6th army.
May 18th – Army Group A reaches Peron (Gudarian) and Cambria (Rommel).
May 19th – Waygand reaches France from Syria. French 4th Armored Brigade attempts another counterattack, but are forced to retreat.
May 20th- Rommel’s 7th Panzer Division is near Arras. Gudarians Panzer Division reaches Channel cost. Flotilla of British ships begins assembling off British cost for Operation Dynamo, and under command os Sir Bertram Ramsey.
May 21st- 2 British Expeditionary Force Divisions and 8 Divisions of the French 10th army meant to launch an offensive at Arras, only the British are ready at the time with only 3 Battalions of Infantry and 74 tanks, Proceed to push 7th Panzer back 10 miles and destroy a lot of Panzers, Rommel forms a gun line of mostly 88mm flak guns, this ends the attack, in the evening, Stukas force the British withdrawal.
May 22nd- Army Group A Ordered to take Armentieres, Ypers and Ostend. Army Group B ordered to move left flank north to strengthen the trap. 2nd Panzer takes Boulogne.
May 23rd- 10th Panzer takes Calais. Gerd von Rundstedt orders Army Group A to halt and regroup.
May 24th- 1st Panzer reaches the Aa Canal, 10 miles from Dunkirk, at this point they are closer to Dunkirk then most Allied formations, between them and Dunkirk is a British Expeditionary Force Battalion.
May 25th- Battle of Dunkirk begins. British Expeditionary Force ordered to retreat to the sea by Lord John Gort.
May 26th- Operation Dynamo begins at 19:00 Hours, with only Dunkirk under allied control, Ramsey believed that only 45,000 troops could be evacuated because of this. Germans break through Belgian lines opening up the British right flank. Army Group A begins its push again
May 27th- Belgian Army can fight no longer, King Leopold III asks Germany for an Armistice, he buy’s Britain and France 24 Hours to pull back to Dunkirk by dragging it out
May 28th- Belgium officially surrenders. Half the French 1st army is trapped in Leal; they fight on for 3 days and tie up 7 German Divisions. Main allied force reaches Dunkirk, by now on 25,000 men have been evacuated.
May 29th- first heavy Luftwaffe air raids hit Dunkirk. Over 3 days they sink 243 ships including 8 Destroyers and 8 troop carriers.
June 2nd- daylight evacuations ceased at Dunkirk. Last British troops are evacuated that night.
June 3rd- French rearguard of 30,000 are forced into Dunkirk, over night, Ramsey ordered the evacuation of this force, of the 30,000, 26,000 are evacuated these men would form part of the Free France Forces.
June 4th- Operation Dynamo ends with 338,000 Allied troops evacuated.

Remaining French and British forces in France make a line on the River Somme and River Aisne to the Maginot Line with 49 French Divisions and 17 in the Maginot Line with 5 British Divisions (2 unable to reach Dunkirk 2 just arrived and a weakened armored Division) with 6 supporting Mechanized Divisions. These where opposed by 130 German Infantry Divisions with 10 armored Divisions and 5 Mechanized Divisions.

June 5th- German Offensive Begins.
June 7th- Rommel’s Panzer Corp takes Rouond.
June 9th- Army Group A’s offensive begins. Gudarien’s Panzer Corp crosses the Aires.
June 10th- Italy enters the war on the side of the Germans; they attack with 300,000 troops in the Alps. French Government leaves Paris.
June 14th- German troops enter Paris.
June 16th- French Premier Resigns and a new government takes over headed by Philip Petain. An Armistice request is sent to Hitler.
June 17th- Broadcast by French government instructing the French Military and people to stop fighting.
June 19th- Rommel’s Panzer Corps takes Cherbourg.
June 20th- Hitler’s terms of surrender reach French government. This leads to the Creation of Vichy France in the south and German occupied France in the North.
June 21st- French delegation arrives at Raton to sign surrender 50 miles NE of Paris.
June 22nd- German terms are accepted by France.
June 25th- Battle officially end when French Surrender takes effect at 12:35am.

also please dont make this into a argument thread, just wanted to get a use for this because i didnt use it for school.

If you didn't use it for school, the forum probably wouldn't be a better place.

thats what happens when you expect the worst for french class
