Something interesting...

I just came back from hockey, and was having a very... interesting... conversation with my mom. Subject? Getting past the edge of the universe. Conclusion? You can never get past the edge of the universe because you are PART of the universe. So, if you get past the edge of the 'universe', you're just creating an island of existence instead of getting past the edge. That means, theoretically, to get past the edge of the universe, you have to become not part of the universe. Yeah. Pretty crazy. (Unless you already figured this whole thing out)

Assuming there is an edge of the universe, and this edge could be reached, it would stand to reason that anything that could be called the edge of the universe would not be something that is crossable.

The easiest way to become not part of the universe would be to leave it? So if you need to not become part of the universe in order to leave it, wouldn't it just be getting out of the universe making you not part of the universe?

The better question would be, could you get back?

The Universe is still expanding, so what was the edge today would be completely different by the time you got there, an even with FTL it would take millenia.

So in practical terms it's pretty much inifinite.

There is, actually. I don't know all the specifics, but they have received significant amounts of energy from the edge and it all matches with some theory about the edge of the universe or something. Idk how it works, but I know they've found it (or, at least, they believe they have).
