US Marine Corps Birthday (Nov 10th)

It's almost noon on the 10th here in Okinawa. It's the Marine Corps birthday. Celebrating the 235 years of slaying bodies and killing babies. The base is a flurry of Marines wishing each other a Happy Birthday. The Chow Hall is filled to the brim with Marines, Sailors and Dependants hoping to dine on the wonderful meal of Steak, Prime Rib, Lobster Tail, and King Crab Legs the Government has provided. But all the while we're reminded of our fallen brothers and sisters. Those men and women, far greater than we, who gave their lives in the uniform we now wear. From The Revolution, to Japan, to Korea, and now to Afghanistan, they've proven that "freedom isn't free, but the United States Marine Corps will pay most of your share."

that's clearly a testament to the Marine mentality, more so than it is justification for joining the navy.
