Halo: Starside Intercept

Post by Ringleader on Sun Nov 21, 2010 12:22 pm

Halo: Starside Intercept is a Homeworld 2 total conversion bringing tactical space combat to the Halo universe. The mod will take players onto the front lines of the Human-Covenant war and beyond. Control the vast UNSC fleet in the epic struggle against the alien onslaught, or command the mighty Covenant armada and cleanse the galaxy of the heretic infestation. In Starside Intercept, you can make and break alliances, capture enemy flagships, even land your armies on the surface of Halo itself.

So, is this Halo: Homefront in a shiny new package?

No, it's Halo Homefront after the neurotically obsessed modeler got fired and struck out on his own. Very Happy

So an offshoot of a failed project.

Great.

-Update-

Greetings from Halo: Starside Intercept!

We here at HSI on the hunt for talented modders with a passion for the sci-fi phenomenon that is Halo.

We want YOU!

If you would like to work for us, please send me a PM explaining your previous modding experience as well as examples of your work, portfolios are also welcome, however we do ask that you provide examples of your work that best illustrates your ability to fill the role in question. If you happen to know someone that you believe may help with our efforts, we would appreciate it if you put in the good word for us.

Some of you have been wondering how ground battles will be implemented in Starside Intercept. Actual ground battles with tiny ground units fighting each other with microscopic machine guns wouldn't really be an effective use of engine power in Homeworld 2. We're planning on adding captureable ground constructs/terrain that you can build defense guns/missile silos/plasma batteries upon, among other useful support structures.

Also, some constructs would offer special bonuses and win conditions, like capturing the Control Room AND Library would allow you to activate Halo, a win condition for the Covenant, while other buildings such as elevator hubs, would provide a constant stream of resource units to your fleet. As different as this may seem from traditional Homeworld gameplay, it's nothing more then tweaking preexistent systems present in Homeworld 2, and is entirely possible.

Here are some screenshots of our latest progress:

Admittedly, I must agree with the above statement...

On another note, the skins look absolutely beautiful with the new shaders and if the ground combat is done correctly, this will make a very interesting mod indeed.

However the update begs the question: exactly who is the "us at HSI" composed of?

Don't go there.

As far as I know, Ringleader's looks better, but I'm not sure about the number of starships he has, or how well-done his Covenant warships are.

I didn't mean it like that. Sorry if it sounded different. What I should have said, which one is further along.

did anyone notice that RLs screenshots are photoshopped?

they have render lines from his favorite modeler that don't actually appear in game

Nah NT, that's just the textures, they did the same thing on his textures for HHF.

Anyway, the pictures look gorgeous, I look forward to when they invent a computer that can have a fleet of those onscreen.

I happen to own one.

Also, that's probably a side effect of the new shaders he uses.

Broken Line Studios.
It's the mod team that started (and is finishing) Halo: Homefront.
