Half of the faces in oblivion looked like cartoony respresentations of how the races were described in the lore, Nice to see they are putting the two on the same level now.

I think bethesda was trying to be nice with the first dragon to avoid you getting the feeling like your character was complete rubbish which was often the case in every other dungeon early on in Morrowind, and challenging umbra to a duel in oblivion fresh out of the IC.

Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

First Impression and Thoughts (On Skyrim)

I've played Skyrim for only about an hour and have watched others play it for much longer periods of time and can safetly say I have formed my own set of likes and dislikes of the game already. In short, Skyrim is more of an action game than RPG compared to previous entries in the series. A lot of the typical RPG features such as attributes and equipment selection has been dumbed down.

I'll keep this short...

In Seath's Mind.....

THE GOOD
Spoiler:
- The game is definitely pretty, and also doesn't take absurd hardware to run if you have the PC version, meaning just about anyone with a typical modern PC should be able to pick it up and play it (though probably on lower-than-max settings).

- Combat has been improved, as well as the related selections. This includes Magic. I probably don't have to expand on this as I am sure you have all seen the videos. At any rate, I found the combat more enjoyable in Skyrim compared to previous titles in the series.

- Crafting! Cooking!

- Flying Mammoths!

- Overall good presentation, I have already stated that it is graphically good. The game also has good world design (from what I have seen, it's really damn nice) which is partially boosted by the nice graphics. Voice acting is good. No real problems here.

- Fun to play!
Summary - What they have looks/sounds good and plays well

THE BAD
Spoiler:
- Loss of equipped item load. Many of you who have played Morrowind and Oblivion probably noted the loss of customization with what your character could wear... if you were like me you were saddened by the loss of the ability to make him/her look like a psychopath (I always donned an odd assortment of clothing under my armor.... for the magic, of course).

Well.... those days are even further over in the newest installment into the series Razz. You have less selection with equipment. The Hell Bethesda? I want my two enchanted rings, enchanted amulet, enchanted clothing(2/3 pieces), and enchanted armor(8 pieces). Instead they simplify this to the point where the customization was sent to oblivion(har har). The most important change from Oblivion is the loss of a ring... you can only equip one now(or my game is broken/ im doing something wrong).

- You can't kill the children. Oops, did I say that? YES, I DID SAY THAT. How the hell am I supposed to kill everyone and everything in the game if you cannot kill the children?!? Do I just kill the parents and hope they go all Lord of the Flies on each other?? Is THAT what I am supposed to do? I'm saddened... my very last quest in every TES game is to kill absolutely everything.... and now this quest has been rendered virtually impossible to complete <without console commands - yay PCversion> (twas only SLIGHTLY impossible to complete in oblivion).

- No more attributes. The FUCK Bethesda? You outright removed them and replaced them with three bars for Magic, Fatigue, and Health?? I'll keep this short by just saying they killed customization greater than that of which you will find in a flash game. Over simplified.
Summary - They have oversimplified the game Mechanically. Why can't we kill the children?

THE UGLY
Spoiler:
- The textures of places that are hard to reach/see on min graphics. Morrowind looked better than that shit.

- A couple of the people in the first town.

- Giants.
Summary - Just click and read the whole thing

Now that you have read through those, or at least the summaries, I'd like to note that my feelings are just opinions, however they are opinions based around actual matter-of-fact things. Consider this my "These are the opinions of the writer" disclaimer.

I'm pretty sure the full on attributes and stuff were simplified to make room for the plethora of perks and specialties. Now instead of spreadsheets, stats are far more real with relevant tasks increasing the skills.

Why remove them in the first place though? The perks and specialties would fit well alongside the old spreadsheets. It seems to be harder to push your character in a specific direction. For example, for a slow, lumbering tank who deals massive amounts of damage and has a lot of health you would put points into strength and endurance. Those two would boost health, fatigue, carrying capacity and damage.

From my limited play time it just seems like it was an unnecessary simplification. The perks and specialties are being used as an excuse for the removal of a more complex system in favor of one that is easier to grasp. I dunno... gives me the feeling that they are trying to aim for the console market.
