Combat Evolved?

Post by Divine Virus on Sat Jan 15, 2011 8:31 am

So I came across this video while on TheEscapist.com and thought it was a pretty interesting and strange theory/opinion about Halo.

Basically I just wanted to hear your opinions on what he thinks and if you think maybe he is right, wrong, if his theory has any solid ground or if he is just trying really hard to come up with anything negative to say about the series.

What do you guys think? Personally, I can see what he means and where he's coming from...but the whole eye color change to blue thing was really a stretch. IDK, I never actually heard anything like this before about Halo so it kinda caught me off gaurd.

Maybe you guys have already heard this already, so yeah. If a lot of you have already heard this before then my apologies.

He actually makes some interesting points, though I'd note that the humans are all too willing to work with the Covenant later in the war when the Covenant is actually willing to work with them.

I actually made a post in that thread. I still found it odd that he didn't take notice that the spartans are from from different planets, and are diverse. Same with the entirety of humanity's army. They can from all different races, planets etc. We just aren't AS diverse as the Covenant because they are made of entirely different species.

Well, the Spartans weren originally intended to be particularly diverse. They were meant to be faceless, almost emotionless super soldiers. The thing was that Halo was calling into question the ethics of the Spartan program. That's what Halsey spent half the books doing: questioning her choice to start the Spartan program.

I know that, however, all the spartans (or most of) came from different planets did they not? I was just making that point against "Moviebob"

Well yes. Many of them do come from different planets. But initial diversity is overruled by loss of individuality.

Yes, I know. I am not arguing that. I was pointing out Moviebobs flaw in his understanding of the concept.

Yah.... it's pretty obvious that he doesn't know the story behind Contact Harvest.

Hehehehehe....
The guy knows NOTHING about fascism. NOTHING. He's a movie reviewer, so his knowledge of fascism is limited to
-Nazis are EVIL
-They killed the Jews and Robin Williams
-They loves their precious artifacts.

In reality, that whole "blond hair, blue eyes" thing was a strictly Nazi ideal, and is unrelated to the tenants of fascism. Small minded people like the Aryan Nation and this guy might think differently, but w/e.

In addition, his whole 'multiculturalism' argument is bogus. Partly because the Covenant attacked first (not a strong argument in itself) but because Humanity is pretty much multicultural. We've got Aussies, Brits, Latin/South Americans, Africans, and even a few Americans. The Covenant are multicultural in the same way the American south was: One race lording all over the others.

I like how 2/3 of the images he showed to support his claims wern't even made by bungie

also, the covenant isn't bad because they are diverse... they are bad because they are trying to enact GENOCIDE on humanity.

going with his arguments this is like calling any jews who fought against the nazi's facists because they were fighting for their survival against the nazi's Neutral

the problem with giving shows to people with uneducated opinions... is they pass their uneducated opinions on to others Neutral

Yeah, I think it's safe to say he definitely does not have enough knowledge of the series to be calling judgements like this.

He's looking at the Big Picture though!
/joke

I dont think he's going to take his time to read every piece of lore concerning Halo before making that video.
