This oughta go into the debate section.

But really, I see no reason to ban the sport of hunting (Assuming one is talking about rifle-hunting waterfowl and game.) It keeps Nature in check, and it provides a safe outlet for the male desire to pull the trigger, feel the recoil, and watch blood spurt downrange.

You DON'T want to take that outlet away.

Another point my brother made recently.

Hunting requires huge tracts of land to be natural woods filled with native wildlife. It is very possible that, without that hunting, the land would be open to (more) overdevelopment.

I would also note that, in the more rural areas, hunting is used as a means to provide food for the family. Because anyone could lie about why they are hunting, it would be too difficult to ban sport hunting without restricting nonsport hunting.

I see no reason to ban it so long as people obey the rules laid down. Get a permit, only kill a certain number of animals, only kill the males(usually), and if you injure an animal you have to kill it.

here in Australia most of the feral animals are fair game.....
also what tiny tim said kinda scared me 0.o if you hurt something you have to kill it imagine your the animal and you suddenly feel a sharp pain and your limping away as someone is slowly closing in on you with a murderous intent....

As I live in a country where it has been banned, I think I'll give the reason why.

Over here we hunted with a large pack of dogs who rip foxes to shreds once they catch them. We only went after foxes and it wasn't as simple as shooting them in the cranium, which is probably why it was banned.

However, fox populations have risen since the ban and we're seing more foxes in urbanised areas, with the occassional report of a fox attacking a person as it got a little too bold.

Bringing it back has always been a issue, as it was seen as a sport for the upper class elite, and a archaic sport. We do have a few people shooting for sport, but the lack of guns and the difficulty in obtaining one legally here has made it difficult.

We had a good reason to ban it, but we may need to find another way to keep animal populations down, aka the occasional culling of animals, which would be a lot more humane than what preceeded it.

What he means is this.

If you are intentionally causing injury to animals, you must be intending to kill them. To intentionally injure an animal without the intent to kill it is animal cruelty and is illegal.

If you accidentally injure an animal, you must only kill it if its injuries would otherwise prove fatal, thus putting it out of its misery. To mortally wound an animal accidentally and then let it slowly bleed out and die painfully is animal cruelty and is illegal.
