from a marketing standpoint, it makes sense why they would do it... at this point the game has been out long enough that it is probably not selling well, microtransactions in game were probably about the only profit they were making from it. Now, they have just opened the floodgates to that revune stream. not only will people who probably wouldn't have played the game now play, but people who used to play will likely come back for a chance to play with their friends.

I wish EA and Activision would finally learn that you can make money AND be nice to the community AT THE SAME TIME.
