Digital Distribution Platforms

Why is it that every company feels they need to have their own digital distribution platform? Blizzard has there own, EA has there own, Steam covers almost fucking everything.

Same with Hulu and company specific hulu type things.

Having it all on one platform may make them less money per purchase, as a bit needs to go to the middle man, but their exposure and userbase is immediately larger. If I have steam, I don't give a single fuck about EAs platform that does the same thing, so instead of them making more money, I'm just never going to buy any EA games online.

It's like you said, why have a middle man when all the profits could directly go to you.

Plus it gives the company basically complete control over what/how you buy the games.

more profits per sale, but less sales.
