Is porn a real career choice?
Re: Is porn a legitimate business to go in to?

Then really no type of job, other than being a CEO, is a good career choice as it's the same as being a fry cook.
Exactly. I was saying that any job short of CEO is no better than being a fry cook. Glad we're on the same level -_-

well, being paid 6 digit salary seems to be a little bit more than a fry cook...

You're arguing semantics. Porn STARS make a LOT of money. Maybe not CEO, lot, but still a lot, plus the fame.
I'm arguing semantics? It certainly seems like it's the other way around. Porn STARS do not make a lot of money on a relative job scale.
Okay, how about, Porn stars could be comparable to a Doctor (with more fame)?

I'd say 6 digits of income is rather good.
And Jesse Jane has a net worth of $8 mil
Eyeah... no.
Looking at the actual article, only one single source stated that actresses earn six figure salaries. The rest of it is listed as 'by the scene', and unless a woman has the stamina of a Kryptonian*, she ain't going to see that six-figure salary.
This sounds like football to me: Only a few players are making millions on a contract, everyone else is hired for <100K.
*And there shall be a fetish for that too.

even then, 60k a year is not bad at all.
and stamina would make 1 scene longer, not really have more scenes.
and even then that can be $500-$1500 in half an hour. That's good pay.

What? Since when. You were arguing that a porn star career was no better than Mcdonalds, not every job other than CEO.

But again, a career choice isn't about the money you earn, it's about doing what you want. The money is just an extra bonus.
Besides, 100K doesn't sound bad to me.

Re: Is porn a legitimate business to go in to?
I believe that going into the Pornography Industry could provide an excellent(financially at the very least) temporary job for many who enter it.
Going off of figures listed in this thread, porn stars are making a lot of money. A lot of money is relative to each person however, so let me clarify what I mean by a lot of money. My family's household income is roughly in the $40,000 to $45,000 mark. With two adults and two children, this was enough to get by every year, save some, and even have a bit of excess every year to spend on a vacation, say $1000 to blow.
Lets look at someone who could be acting in the Porn Industry. This person will likely be single and going off of the "60,000" a year mark, will be making more than most people in entry level positions with a Bachelors Degree. Ignoring the fact that the cost of living for one person would be completely different compared to four people, thats TWENTY VACATIONS MORE! I must say, I do feel kind of jealous, as I do love a good vaction every once in a while. Also take into account that they do not likely work fourty hours a week, so they have a shit ton of free time.
Basically, regardless of what such an individual does afterwards, it should provide more than enough money to live off of for years after leaving it behind. However, this still doesn't make it a good career choice simply because it will likely end after a short period of time, as very few of the actors ever make it into a career which they can hold untill retirement.
I can't continue this because of class and wont remember what I was going to say afterwards, so I guess this ends what I had to say

Yes, and we already covered that some people who work at McDonalds get really far and have great pay.... but not so much for the other 99.999%. It's not hard to point to Brad Pitt and say "Look how much money actors make! It's such a great job!" That's essentially what NT is doing with his six-figure salary argument.
I'm not saying that starring in pornography doesn't make money, but I am saying that it usually doesn't earn very much - not enough to happily sustain the 'employee'.

I think you guys are putting to much importance on money made. IMO, the amount they get payed doesn't affect the legitimacy of the career.

How the FUCK can you discuss for FIVE pages if porn is a legitimate business?
Is it a business, it's not illegal. It's legitimate.

Exactly. We're haven't been discussing the legitimacy of porn as a career, as both sides have already agreed that it is legitimate. Instead, we're debating whether or not it is a good career choice.

Re: Is porn a legitimate business to go in to?
Completely fine job to get a career in. When you get older you get categorized into the MILF department and start doing same aged people or younger and by the time you are too old to really do normal non-fetish porn you'll have enough to retire.
And if you are talking about stigma and family not approving most porn stars don't give a shit as it's there lives.

Except you don't get payed very much unless you're famous and the "fun" something that you're doing is morally questionable and highly frowned upon by society as a whole. Unemployed people also have a lot of free time.
