that wasn't something I really needed validated. I can usually tell when people say things like "we are super excited about the project" if they mean they are really excited or if it means their boss told them to say that.

I feel bad for ensamble too, as the game they had going looked good, it was probably the forcing of halo all over it that ruined the end product

This at least gives me some solace knowing Ensemble probably didn't want to fuck up this badly.

It would seem Bungie wasn't the paragon we wanted them to be.

Yeah, it's often all sound and thunder, signifying nothing. Or however that quote goes.
Still, it fooled us for a while, didn't it?

Meh. Looking at some of the cut content, I think they could have delivered a decent game. They dropped the ball.

Gauz wrote:This at least gives me some solace knowing Ensemble probably didn't want to fuck up this badly.
Heh. Most of the solus this gives me is that when some twerp says "Bungie approved of ES", I can shove this in their face. Along with a number of other articles I have.

*Shrugs*

Don't see why. They were simply lethe to let some strangers run rampant in their intellectual property.

bungie couldn't do anything about it since microsoft owned the rights. I have more respect that bungie thought that their IP was being whored out than if they had accepted halo wars outright

Not their problem anymore, They sent the Series out with Halo reach and half the fanbase hated them for it, They are done with Halo.

Now they are gonna be making Activision money, but of course they wont be seeing any of said money.

It's probably a lot kinder as there are a ton of former Bungie employees working there.

Besides, as far as their concerned Halo is done, they never have to think about it again. They're probably focused solely on making whatever aerospace turns out to be as good as possible and probably as far away from Halo as they could possibly manage. You could tell in some of their final viddocs they were just burnt out with that whole universe. Time for something different.

Naughty Dog left Crash Bandicoot at Team Racing and then went on to Jax and then to Uncharted. So you can probably safely guess whatever they do next will look and play nothing like Halo did.

I guess that explains the change from E3 07 to 08. Too bad, Microsoft really screwed that one up.

This one? What more is there to say about the original topic? He just confirmed what most of us already believed.

I wonder what the game that became Halo Wars was before when they first pitched it. Do you think it would have been a new IP or a spin-off of AoE?

Probably a new IP, if MS asked them to just do a paintjob it must have been marginally similar to Halo.

I doubt they were even very far into the game when MS asked told them to reskin it. Halo Wars was in development for quite some time and the time between when HW was announced and the time they were working on whatever it was wasn't very long.

I believe that it would have been an Age of Mythology game.

Remember how they used to talk about how they prototyped Halo Wars by getting AoM to work on the console? They spent something like nine months getting it to work right before they took it to Microsoft, and Microsoft told them to give it a Halo skin.

I always thought that nine months was a long time for a prototype.

Really depends on the game honestly. If it's a sequel to an existing game, you can re-use a lot of engine and assests for the next one.

Either making a new engine or repurposing one to run on a completely new piece of hardware, in this case the 360 would have taken them a lot longer as it's a system that they weren't familiar with, and the added issue of controls.

To me, HW turned out 'good enough'. Yes yes, we all know what it could have been and it really is unfortunate that it turned out the way it did. Also sucks that Bungie couldn't really do much about it. Really kinda sucks for everybody involed.

But in end it did give me entertainment for some time so, cheers. And hey, the games forum did introduce me to a lot of new people, so I guess that's something.
