hurricane sandy

Post by A_Bearded_Swede on Mon Oct 29, 2012 11:08 am

So my town got evacuated and I'm in college and I cant leave my apartment.
I live on the jersey shore and I live 5 minutes from the water.
Anyone else dealing with this?

It's pretty windy, raining, and cold where I am.

I'm down in NC so it's just mildly cloudy and cold.

May have light rain later, but i'm on the outskirts of the storm so no expected problems really. Probably won't even rain.

The weather in Lower Michigan went from sunny and high 70's to rainy, windy, and lower 40's in about 8 hours, so nothing unusual so far.

Around 1.5 hours till it hits us at college. Back at home parts of my town have 1ft of water on the street. Deep enough for a boat. On LBI theres up to 4 ft of water.

Southwestern CT, we're getting sideways rain. I live in a pretty flood-prone area, we shall see what happens with the storm surge. I'm getting pretty constant power surges, so we'll see if/when we lose power.

It's a cool 80 degrees here (just cold enough that we can leave our doors and windows open and needn't run our air conditioning), without a cloud in the sky. Humidity is about 20%. I only have a few friends on the east coast, and I don't intend to travel there anytime soon, so I'm mostly unaffected.

I've not really been following the hurricane. What category is it at?

Category 1 less than an hour till landfall. The eye will be around Philadelphia about 15 min where I am in college. Back home there could be a storm surge of 20ft.

It got a couple degrees colder in Iowa, but I think we'll get over it. Hell, we could use some water.

Must suck to live on the coast this time of the year.

East coast gets rained on for a couple of months.

That's not all that special. Replace desert with dunes, and you can do the same thing in Michigan, only without the fear of your entire state being devoured by the depths.

Hundreds of acres, not hundreds of miles. The fault is only active every once in a while, but even then it doesn't cause massive statewide damage for more than a few days.

And there's this thing called avoiding Compton.
