I thought Twinkies could survive anything.

Post by Rasq'uire'laskar on Sat Nov 17, 2012 11:36 am

Where's the cream filling?

So, I realize that Hostess has been in and out of bankruptcy court over the past decade. I hear that their executives got an 80% pay raise after their last fling with Chapter Eleven.

But, uh, what kind of stupid do you have to be to look at the company's balance book and think that there must surely be some more money to extort from it? I mean, even the Teamsters told the BCTGM to take the deal and get back to work, and these idiots didn't listen.

And, for further examples of bleeding the company dry, let's take a look at the pension fund. The Bakery & Confectionery Union & Industry International Pension Fund is Hostess's biggest creditor, to the tune of 940 million dollars.

So, now 18,500 people are out of a job. Hope there's a change of management at the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union.

Huh, I didn't know that some of the unions over in the US were that militant.

We have a particularly nasty union here that covers Rail and underground travel who strike at the drop of a hat when they feel they can get more money.

The only reason they get away with it is because it's funded by the government.

I hope this might be used an example of why some unions really should try and use common sense when it comes to demands.

That sounds like every professional sports union this side of the Atlantic, except they get away with it because people demand their terms be met so they'll play.

I do like the idea of people just all quitting until they get paid more. That's a great way to keep a job!!!!

This comic is over 130 years old. Guess there is nothing new under the sun.

Anyhow, from what I understand, the workers were already working on reduced wages, (IE: their wages were cut by over 30%) so maybe this would have happened even without the strike.

it was a small pay cut in a plan to get their wages 2% higher than it was before the 30% cut in a couple of years

its unlikely twinkies will go away. SOMEONE will just make them under a new name. Hell, they may just buy all the existing factories so they would be literally the same.

My cousin (who sells sugared water to the masses) says he heard of talks to buy out Hostess and keep selling Twinkies.
