Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.

Post by Vigil on Thu Feb 28, 2013 12:39 pm

So, the inevitable has been announced, and reveals an interesting new setting and direction for the series.

Spoiler:

What do you think about this? After the bad reception to the last two games, can this save the series?

"We're releasing our game to all consoles, because we want the money, but we're only releasing the full game on PS3, because fuck everyone."

Will I pay money for it? Probably not. I only have Assassin's Creed 3 because my parents can't read. I asked for Brotherhood and Revelations for Christmas. They buy me the Legendary Edition of AC3. I weep inside at their stupidity.

I haven't cared much for the AC series since AC2, but if they make the environments and changes that I'm hoping for, I would probably buy it. Pirate docks sound like a great place to be an assassin and, frankly, who doesn't at least enjoy the concept of a triple-a game about pirates vs ninjas?

Of course, I'm not counting on them doing much more than re-releasing AC with more fluff mechanics and a new, prettier environment.

I felt that the naval combat in AC3 was the most enjoyable aspect of the game, at least imo, and given what this is inferring, that'll be used a lot. Don't know what to think of the direction tho.

I haven't even touched AC3 or Revelations. It didn't really seem to offer anything new for the core gameplay, and the rest was fluff which didn't remotely impact the meat of the game.

You kidding? AC3 practically threw out the core gameplay!

Did they actually take out elements of the core gameplay or just make no meaningful changes to it? I honestly haven't touched the game at all, so I am clueless.

The changes were three fold. First, they gutted and streamlined the controls. Second, they removed the environments that supported the old gameplay (the dense cities). Finally, they overloaded the game with so much fluff and alternative gameplay that the core gameplay is nigh forgotten.

I would have a use for my PS 3 (aside from BO 2, PS 1/2 games, and The Last of Us) if I was actually about to buy this.

After AC 3, hell no.

Still waiting for a ancient Japan-era AC with samurai templars and ninja assassins. NINJA
ASSASSINS

I should work for Ubisoft.

That's most likely their plan for AC V.

Then we'll have Future Space Assassins for AC VI.

I thought Revelations was the point where the series really got overburdened with systems and the story ended up meandering and going really nowhere.

I have yet to play 3, but all the critical reviews and standard word and mouth was pretty bad reading. Ubisoft had to release a patch a few weeks after release for every single mission in the game because how many bugs the game had.

I heard 3 had too much bullshit to enjoy the actual assassins creed in it.

Like, too much managerial fucking shit Razz
Since when did being an assassin have you becoming an economics expert trying to build some kind of fucked up business?

I liked brotherhood, but even then it was getting pretty stupid. Buying huge amounts of property in Rome? For what purpose? To help defeat the borgias maybe? No, you can do that without any of that, so you buy things for the sake of buying more things.

Oh then you train other people to do assassinating for you.

Fortunately they claim to be moving away from that stuff and going for a More AC1 like design philosophy.

I think Brotherhood was the peak of the series and everything since that has been downhill, though to be fair I have yet to play AC3.

As for this news, it's a nice words to hear, but I remain rather skeptical as it is still going to have a fair share of faffing about on your ship and lots of optional stuff tied to that.

The main crux needs to be a stronger story, as that was the biggest flaw of the last two games, and making a game about assassination about FUCKING ASSASSINATING PEOPLE.
