EA's CEO has resigned

Post by Vigil on Mon Mar 18, 2013 3:22 pm

After six years at the helm of what is now is considered one of the worst companies in America, John Riccitiello has called it a day.

Not really surprised really, as he presided over the absolute fiscal disaster that was the Old Republic. Though to be fair to the man, without him Dead Space or Mirror's Edge wouldn't of been made.

We'll have to see who will step in and where EA goes from here.

Any of the problems we have with EA probably aren't handled by the CEO of the entire company so I doubt anything will really change unless he catches on that everyone hates EA for microtransactions and adding similar things to games to milk money from them and SPECIFICALLY says to put an end to it.

Otherwise I imagine the company would keep going on as is.

The first and second Dead Space are pretty good. Mirror's Edge, from what I heard, was also fairly decent.

I don't think this guy really had a whole lot to do with the minions down below him, so not much will change.

company CEO's actually can have a lot to do with the quality of work their company backs/ produces if they are interested and care (which they should).

glad to hear he is gone, hopefully whomever replaces him cares a bit more

Yeah but this company is huge. Is not like the CEO of Mcdonalds is having a hand in the new burger menu. Fuckers probably just giving orders for which areas need to improve, dealing with the revenue, looking for cheaper ways to produce their items, and figuring out which tropical island to vacation at this month.

The widely tipped favorite to take the top job is Peter Moore. You know, the former President of Sega during the dreamcast era and then vice-president at Microsoft during the xbox and 360 era?

He's currently the head of EA sports, so take all that as you will.

To be fair the big shrink is due to the global recession, as the gaming industry as a whole is shrinking. The 2012 nose dive is all his fault though, with Bioware's dual fuck-ups of ME3 and TOR really hurting that. Warfighter not selling well didn't help.

Hopefully as we're heading into a new generation of consoles, they'll see this as a time to start fresh and reinvent themselves, but given the higher ups in the company that's highly unlikely.

When your 2013 line up includes Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel, Battlefield 4, Command& Conquer (Now Free to Play!), Dragon Age III: Inquisition and your regular sports titles, you know you're going to have a grim year.

The only game that even looks promising is Fuse(Aka that awesome game that was at E3 two years ago called Overstrike by Insomniac games) and even then I doubt that will be enough to even begin to recoup their losses.

Like many companies, this new generation is pretty much make or break on their part.

Re: EA's CEO has resigned

Post by Lord Pheonix on Wed Mar 20, 2013 1:21 pm

Speaking at Morgan Stanley's Technology Media & Telecom Conference this week, the publisher's CFO Blake Jorgensen said EA plans to include microtransactions in all of its upcoming games.

"The next and much bigger piece is microtransactions within games," he said. "We're building into all of our games the ability to pay for things along the way, either to get to a higher level, to buy a new character, to buy a truck, a gun, whatever it might be, and consumers are enjoying and embracing that way of the business."

Go straight to hell Blake.

Your behind the times LP, EA has already backed the fuck up from that statement as fast as they uttered it.

Shows that that is their business mind though. They saw nothing wrong with doing it at first then backed the fuck up when they found out that we all see them and this as evil money grubbing assholes.

I do hope the new CEO will put forth steps to clean EA's reputation by making it better and less evil. I doubt that will happen, but I hope.

They'll probably do it, just be a bit more subtle about it.

I hope that as well, but I remain equally as skeptic.

Honestly, I would be happiest if EA just dissolved and let someone new take over. Maybe Zynga, Hammerhead, or Activsion. How much worse can it get?
