A slight problem

Post by RX on Sun Jan 05, 2014 1:25 pm

So I finally got myself one of them desktop computers, and everything's been nice and dandy for about a week, then I headed home from the family house, packed the thing into the car and got it installed in the apartment. Lo and behold, no signal to the monitor no matter what. Anyone got a clue as to why it suddenly decided to not connect anymore? Worked like a charm yesterday..

And make sure that the particular socket is powered? Sometimes they blow out.

Had this problem before, check the RAM and try it in different slots.

Do all the components seem to be functioning? I assume you have power to the monitor if it's telling you no signal, is the tower making the same sounds as usual? Have you tried isolating the problem by swapping in known-good components (If you have [access to] them)?

If the monitor is using HDMI, I'd check to see if the video-in has come loose. If it's VGA or DVI, I'd check anyway because maybe you/someone was lazy and didn't screw that shit in tight.

Naturally, you'll want to cycle the inputs on the monitor, just to make sure it isn't defaulting to the wrong one for God knows why.

Also, if you have an independent GPU, you'll want to make sure you're plugging the video-out into the GPU, not the motherboard.

Oh, and if you're running more than two monitors and trying to use DisplayPort or Mini DisplayPort, you need a fancy "active" DisplayPort cable for the third monitor to work.

Those are the most basic and common mistakes I can think of that might cause no input detected.

Tried all these things for a while, then decided to just let it be for a while and do other things, and suddenly it worked again later that evening. The lord works in mysterious ways.

Common misconception, I usually work in ways that are funny to me.
