earliest memory game

Post by KrAzY on Wed Mar 25, 2015 7:22 pm

person posts, next person to post will say the earliest memory that they have of interacting with the last person.

this doesn't need to be the first time you actually interacted, just the earliest one that you can remember.

I will start with Pheonix, since although he isn't the first poster on the thread, he is the first poster in my heart.

the earliest interaction I can remember having with pheonix is actually NOT on HWF as I expect most answers here will be, but on SoF which I joined since I was an avid Ogame player who had quit playing, and when I saw that there was a group of HWF people playing the game I wanted to play as well. I'm not sure if I ever actually joined the clan or not, I think that I started and then remembered how much of a time-sink ogame could be and quit after a few days since I didn't want to spend all that time.

we DEFINITELY interacted earlier than that, but I cant remember specifically where... I have a feeling that Pheonix was the one who told me to join SoF in the first place

Well now if I go then i'm talking about my memory with you and no one goes next and it's just me and you jerking eachother off in a thread.

I'm okay with that.

In my now ancient age my memory has started to give and I cannot truthfully remember interacting with you lot for the first time. Chances are it was just in some random thread on HWF some 7 years ago. As far as I can remember I was talking to KrAzY_TaCoS about some game suggestions for HW before it all went to shit.

Pheonix... I can't remember.

I'm positive we interacted on the Halo Wars Forums, and I think he may have been one of the three (Along with Ninja Theory and... ?) who "wore panties for a day" and very nearly got our signature privileges revoked.

The earliest I am sure that I talked to him was very early in the non-development of Project Aftermath, at which point we were devoting more energy to coming up with cool easter eggs than planning the gameplay.

I had ideas, Dud had ideas (A memorial statue dedicated to lives lost in the nuclear exchange, with "A monument to all our sins" written on the base) and Pheonix just wanted a side room with a little crimson flame hovering in the air.

One of the first threads I saw on the HWF had Rasq and Seath arguing about something. I can't remember exactly what, but physics was involved. I then posted in that thread, my first on that site, and took Rasq's side in a debate that I had no idea what was going on in.

I was 14, angry, and should not have been allowed near the internet.

I think my first memory of interacting with you, pie, is actually also in an argument on the Halo Wars fourms. If I remember correctly you were on the side arguing that a star destroyer would win in a battle against a UNSC ship that was using a MAC gun. I know for a fact that is where I first interacted with Rot, since me and him were trying to figure out the math for the kinetic energy that would be impacted on a star destroyer from a Mac round, vs the energy from a turbolaser impact.

also featured in that thread, would the death star be in any danger attacking a planet with a battery of Super MAC's in orbit.

I miss old HWF... before the dark times... before the Thunder, Lethe, and Paragon debacles

I remember reading that thread, but I don't think I ever posted in it, so I don't know the true first time I interacted with you, Mr.Inferior of the two Admins. But I do remember reading that so I'll just say that through proxy of reading Razz.

I don't actually recall any specifc interactions with Ruski, but we definitely played XBL at some point or another.

Of course, we met earlier than that through HWF/TCF.

Well, this is awkward. I don't remember interacting with you until the Crimson Flame, and even that is a little fuzzy. If it helps, I've pronounced your name as "Noc-Cable" or "No-Cable" for seven or eight years.

In the interest of keeping this going, I remember hearing of Rotaretilbo (I thought it was spelled Rotaretbildo for the longest time) months before I met him. The idea of his ill-fated MMOFPS idea kept coming up, and I even got to read a copy of it. I was less than impressed. =P

Then one day he shows up and he's like a big introverted teddy bear. Friendly, pedantic, and he introduced the idea of multi-quoting to tear arguments apart. Actually, the proper term would be Fisking, but how were we to know? Anyhow, he made the mistake of saying that the Flood could totally be implemented into Halo Wars. Come on, man, we're the cool, smart guys and we're trying to convince all these nooblets that the Flood don't belong in Halo Wars, so would you kindly toe the party line?

Then he goes and makes his monstrous "How to Implement the Flood" thread, and he's got some pretty good ideas. I resist supporting this nonsense for a few days, but I eventually pop in and post a disclaimer stating that I think including the Flood would be a terrible mistake and it shouldn't be done... but I got some ideas.

Pretty soon, everyone's tune was changed to "Flood would be good, but MULTIPLAYER ONLY!" And then the first time I clearly remember having a conversation with him, Rot PMed me asking for my opinion if he should start a similar thread for the Forerunner/Sentinels.

I remember those threads too, the "how to implement the flood" thread was pretty much the only thing I read in the suggestions forum. I mainly stuck to general discusstion (sig thread mainly) and the haloverse section. never did I wander into the quagmire that was the suggestions forum

My earliest memory of P would be in the Halo MMOFPS thread, back when he still went by Fenix01. I remember interacting with him, but not much else.

Honestly, all the names have mostly blended together at this point. I remember events, but not participants. The only thing I can clearly remember specifically regarding participation is that capn qwerty ran some kind of competition or something.

haha, yeah, this ended up being much more difficult than I anticipated, as the only real first interaction I can remember is actually with you Rot, in the Halo vs Starwars thread... its as you said, everything just kinda blends together.

also so many people have changed their names so many times, its crazy

I think the first interaction I can remember is my first post, a suggestion on the Gameplay Suggestions forum.

I suggested nuclear cruise missiles launched from Warthog trailers, and either Vigil or Skita1 popped in and said "Sigh... another StarCraft fan wants, yet again, more StarCraft. Be patient, StarCraft 2 has been announced."

I have come to terms with the fact that, for a console RTS and all the inherent limitations, Halo Wars is a good RTS.

Ensemble Studios tried to make the sort of game we wanted, and it didn't work. They had free placement of buildings. They had placeable minefields. The coding for control groups is still in the game, just dummied out. The XBox 360 controller is just too limited compared to the fluid control that a mouse and well-designed UI delivers to an RTS, and something had to go if Halo Wars was going to be playable.

Yeah, there's some stupid that made it in, like the Cyclops and hero units and MAC strikes. But the base of Halo Wars is still a very solid game.

First time I remember talking with Ninja Theory: It took me a long time before I could make an account and post, so I knew who NT was. Unfortunately, he was banned before I could sign up.

Then, a few months later, you guys were talking to Naughty Tacos and I was like "Wait. This guy I've been talking to for months is actually Ninja Theory?"

well, I'm not saying they didnt try. IMO an RTS on a console is inherently not super workable... but I wouldn't ever say that halo wars is good.

a blind person can take up painting, and make the best painting that a blind person has ever made, but that wouldn't necessarily qualify that painting to be considered objectively good compared to other paintings.

is halo wars okay for a console RTS? sure. is it a good RTS? no

were you really not around while NT was actually Ninja Theory? it was a LONG time before he got banned on that account, I dont remember Naughty Tacos lasting very long

I almost think that the mods eventually gave up and he went back to being Ninja Theory.

It's been nearly eight years, I can barely remember first interactions. I probably asked Rasq' about his name, and then became committed to memorizing it.

My first interaction with Rot would be somewhere in the heyday of the Chatbox, but the first interaction I remember with Rot specificly was asking why I lost several hundred legionaries in testudo formation to arrow-fire while in OB's IN game.

It didn't help that OB hadn't told me anything about how the game was intended to be run, beyond use dice to determine success. It also didn't help that I'd never played any of the Total War or Civilization games on which IN was so heavily based. Razz
