I respect Rock Band and Guitar Hero for what they are: Mindless toys with absolutely no depth.

I can agree that both are a fun thing to get together with friends and play, but I am increasingly disgusted by the way it is portrayed to represent the medium of games.

In one of my classes, we were discussing violence in media. Someone mentioned video games and I made the statement that "Every game has to have some form of conflict. How else could there be interactivity?"

A girl in the class room responded with "No, guitar hero doesn't have any conflict"

I simply glared at her and said "Guitar Hero is NOT a game"

The same goes for Rockband, as they are both the same thing. I'm not saying their bad, but I'm tired of people praising them so much, and I'm tired of people using them as a way to define gaming.

Rock band is one of my favorite games, guitar hero has crapy animations and characters and rock band has good animations and AWEsome custimization. In rock band 2 i have over 200 songs and i like playing it to pass time or just as a fun way to listen to music. I hate the people (recontoaster) who suck at it and dont listen to music besides video game music so cant respect a game rather than for a story.

Rock band has better world tour and and doesnt have a tiny guitar and actually doesnt have cheaply made drums like guitar hero.

Guitar Hero doesn't have many songs I like, and I never played Rockband, though I watched my brother play a few times, and it looked better.

i have boith rock band 2 and guitar hero world tour i think rock band is better because most of the song on guitar hero take hours to play ..... i can do expert drums on all but 3-4 songs

and GH is hard because they make it harder than it reasonably should be purely for the 'WTF' factor. GH1 and 2 were good, but activision fucked up 3 and WT.

Harmonix is the true makers of the genre, so RockBand holds strong.

Eh, the WTF factor isn't so WTF when you get close. When you got 9-year-olds getting 100% on TF&F on Expert, you know it's not near impossible. As far as guitar goes, I like GH3 a wee bit more, but RB is better for all other instruments. Though WT kinda screwed up the guitar this time, so I'd probably go with RB2 on guitar now... though I will still miss the difficulty of GH. Expert on RB = Hard on GH.
