Halo Legends 'Origins' Part one Review.

Our story starts after the conclusion of Halo 3, as we zoom in and enter the rear end of Forward unto Dawn. Cortana starts narrating about how when she was born 7 years ago she had access to all the sum of human knowledge which she processed and understood in 2 hours. She explains how she now knows much more, and that she now realises John’s role in the universe and how he came to be here. She thinks about how war has continued throughout human history during our evolution, and then thinks back to the Forerunners. During this she flickers from blue to red, possibly showing her growing rampancy.

We then zoom in on a Forerunner planet, 100,000 years ago as a meteor crashes into the planet, introducing the Forerunners to the flood. We see sentinels and other machines move to the crash site, and we see a proto-Gravemind (at least I think it is it’s very strange.) Cortana muses that they were too slow to act, despite their technology and intelligence as the Flood spreads quickly across the planet, creating new creatures and hundreds of infection forms and flood spores. Because of this the Flood had become more and more intelligent, becoming stronger and more able to combat the Forerunners.

We then see the Forerunners themselves. They are wearing some kind of power armour, and look like the bird costumes from some old Japanese cartoon I vaguely recall seeing at some point (I wish I knew what it was called, but I have no clue what it is.) Anywho, we see the Forerunner ships from Halo Wars take off, which large sentinels take up position around the Flood hive. Cortana explains that they were noble brave people, who believed in justice and sought to sterilise the infection. The Sentinels then fire causing a large explosion visible from space, as it then pans to 7 small ships with a large ship in the centre. They them form a ring of energy that then feeds inward to the largest ship, where the energy then charges and fires a massive beam into space, destroying the ship debris in orbit, which is covered in flood growth.

We then see five Forerunners teleport in, and walk towards the remains of the Flood hive. They activate the weapons at their sides, in the same fashion an energy sword would be activated and take aim. As the Flood approaches them, they all fire at once, and their energy beams lace into one and form a large wave that wipes out everything in front of them. They move up on another Flood Growth and fire on, but are eventually overwhelmed and consumed.

Realising defeat was inevitable they decided to create the rings. We see massive Flood growth, and we see Flood infected ships leave the planet, and cut to the Gravemind, as it has no completely formed. We then see the Ark and all seven rings in a line. The Ark creates a portal and each one enters one after another, and are teleported across the galaxy. We see one at Eayn, Doisac and Sanghelios, with primitive Jackals, Brutes and Elites staring up at them. We then cut to a keyship descending to the portal on Earth with cave men watching them. We then see the control room on the Ark and them activating the rings. Cortana explains about what they do and why they were built, all the stuff we all know well.

The rings then fire, creating a massive wave of energy, which wipes out all organic life it, touches wiping the Flood clean. But from the ashes, Cortana explains that the Forerunners catalogued, stored and protected samples of populations of sentient life. Genetic material, embryos, even living specimens. They then send these samples back to their home planets in keyships, which then repopulate the galaxy. We see Grunts, Elites and humans. Cortana then explains that the Forerunners were gone, and that their sacrifice was so that the other species could reclaim the galaxy, their final gift to them.

It then cuts out to the Forerunner planet then cuts to black.
